I purchased a ps3 after a year with the wii. i had become more interested in more hardcore games and the ps3 followed through. Great games and good value for its high price point. There are barely any games that come don't come out for the ps3 that are worth getting so, thats not something you... Read the full review →
First of all, the Playstation is a fantastic game system, with a great library of games, of which my favorites are first party exclusives such as Uncharted, Eden & Flower. But it is also a very capable Blu-ray player, with deep, rich multimedia capabilities. Despite being a gamer, my system gets... Read the full review →
With its strong media capabilities and robust game library, the PlayStation 3 has quickly climbed on my list of "great purchases" and is, as of now, my favorite gaming console on the market. Hardware-wise, the machine has proved over the past two years to be a very reliable piece of... Read the full review →
I'd really like to truly love the PS3. I really would. But in typical Sony style, the system has been hampered by the system's firmware. With each release, it gets better and better, but it still does not support NetFlix streaming. It still does not support the number of video containers... Read the full review →
The PS3 is a great gaming console, with specs that have only now started to be fully tapped. On top of the multiplatform games and the amazing exclusives (go get Killzone 2 now!), there are very good downloadable games, some very different to what you may be used to see (Flower, Noby Noby Boy come... I received my first PS3 as a birthday present nearly 3 years ago. Because of the library of PS2 games I have it needed to be the compatible player. I truly have never looked back. While I have only a 50" Toshiba DLP 720p rear projection TV I have calibrated it to proper spec so the picture... Read the full review →

ok, the ps3 has the "looks", power, the functionality and therefore being the most important part of any home entertainment room, but come on Sony all improvements and additions the the ps3's online services are all in the US, i dont see why its necessary to have different content for... Okay, first off: the game library. I've never understood people who moan about there being no games on the PS3 worth playing. Outside of multiplatform stuff, there's still the many in-house studio productions and I've only run across one or two that has disappointed. I look at the Wii... Read the full review →
Sony's Playstation 3 has many great features, but the one main one that stands out is the fact that it is equipped with the best Blu-Ray player that money can buy. The reason it is the best, is because Blu-Ray technology will continue to progress as time goes by. And the PS3 has the ability to... Read the full review →
I got my PS3 in early 2007 and it was such a pleasure. Even though I bought it for my personal use, when I walked down the street of Prague with PS3 - Czech guys and even tourists were looking at my PS3 and were whispering about it. That's my first Experience to have this great machine. (I have... Read the full review →

Let me get this straight from the get go, Playstation 3 is not your typical gaming console. It is more than gaming. 1. Movies Starting with Playstation 2, Sony has shown their desire to infiltrate your living room in many ways possible. Playstation 2 was one of the best DVD player back then. I mean,... It's also consistently voted as the best BluRay player on the market. Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Sony's Playstation 3 have comparable games and hardware quality in real world terms. Sony excells with its Cell processor, but Microsoft has the better software. I say better, as in fuller,... Read the full review →
This console is quite possibly the number one used device in my home theater system, and I hardly play games. Don't get me wrong, the gaming experience is amazing as far as graphics and complexity of the games created for the console, but media center capability is by far the coolest feature.... I have had my PS3 for about 8 months now and love it. All the games look great in HD and most of them are really fun to play. Also the fact it plays Blu-Ray movies is awesome. Call of Duty: World at War, Resistance 2, GTA 4, Orange Box, and Infamous are my top games so far. The PS3 by far has the... Read the full review →
The first thing that turned me on to the PS3 was it's potential. Whenever I look into buying a new gadget, the first thing I think about isn't what it is now, but what it could be in a year or two. It's a risk/reward consumer strategy that's probably flopped on me more often than... Read the full review →
I had an early generation PS3, so support for 95% of PS2 games was native, and I had no issues. I understand that's changed now for about 1-and-a-half years. I'm a big PC gamer, but I like Action/Adventure genre on a console. PS3 is pretty kick-A#$ in that respect. Graphics are great in... Read the full review →
As I said in my 360 review, I'm a mature gamer (42), own all three of this current gen of consoles, and used to own a shop that rented and sold dvd's & games. I've had quite a bit of experience with this gen of consoles, not just first hand, but from lots of people that used to come... Read the full review →

Are you looking to get the most bang for your buck? If so stop no farther than the Sony Playstation 3. Ok, so bias ahead, I'm more into PC games. That said, I have the PS3 and the Xbox, and Xbox has more games that I like. But really, that's a moot point as I haven't played a game on any console in something like 4 months. That aside, I wanted to use one of the devices for all my... Read the full review →
I'm sure that this console is great for hardcore console gamers, but for someone like me, it's not at all worthwhile. In retrospect, I should have saved $200 and just bought a Blu-Ray player. There just aren't enough good, two+ player games out there. Where are the simple games like... Read the full review →
The bottom line:
The high-end Sony PlayStation 3's larger hard drive and ability to play PS2 games makes it a worthwhile alternative to the cheaper model--so long as you're willing to wait several months for the more promising exclusive titles to hit store shelves. If backward compatibility is your top priority, this hard-to-find model may be worth the search.
Today Sony isn't simply playing catch-up; the PS3 has grown into a capable system that does almost everything the Xbox 360 can do, and many things even better. As a home theater box it's impeccable, and it's getting better with every update. As a gaming machine the lineup of exclusives is impressive, and more are on the way. Sony failed when it thought that it was unbeatable, and it rallied when everyone thought it couldn't be saved.
Overall, I am impressed with the system's potential. The graphics power is there and once developers have had the time to tap into it, things should change a bit. In fact, I think we'll see great things from the second generation of games from the PS3. Combine that with a few software upgrades, better HD scaling, and a major overhaul of the online system and you can go ahead and add two points to the current score, three if Sony really delivers with the updates. The score reflects the PlayStation 3 as it exists now.
It truly is technologically superior to both the Xbox 360 and the Wii (which isn't really a direct competitor). But to succeed, Sony and its third-party partners must tap into their traditional strength of delivering compelling games for the console. The PS3 looks like an expensive box at first, but seems less so when you compare its cost to the cost of a stand-alone Blu-ray player, a high-end PC graphics card, the Xbox 360 with its HD-DVD add-on, or even a Media Center PC.
