The My Book Thunderbolt Duo isn't the most consistent performer, but its flexibility (two Thunderbolt ports; RAID 0, 1, and JBOD support; user-replaceable drive mecahisms) make it an attractive option for users with Thunderbolt-enabled Macs.

Should You Buy It? It's big, capacious, and expensive—but if you absolutely need space above everything else, yes.

Altogether, a good high-capacity external drive for Mac users, with the advantages of simplicity and user-replaceable drives. We hope to see a Windows version for those very few Thunderbolt-equipped PCs in the near future.

Fans of WD’s reputable My Book line will appreciate that the My Book Thunderbolt Duo exists for their Thunderbolt-capable Mac. But anyone without such brand loyalty should consider G-Technology’s G-RAID to take advantage of Thunderbolt’s powerful capabilities.

For the user with even faster transfer speeds in mind, we do hope that Western Digital brings a solution to market offering their faster 7200RPM hard drives, but for most users the Thunderbolt Duo still offers speeds greater than that of previous FireWire 800 or USB 2.0 solutions.
