The Wacom Inkling is a nifty idea and very enjoyable to work with, although it's best as a set-it-and-forget-it device for capturing rough sketches, rather than a precision tool for professional artists.

As an artist, I would use the Inkling daily. It’s comfortable to draw with, it’s an impressive digital tool, and the support for pressure-sensitivity and vector export easily trump the iPad as far as my sketch workflow is concerned. But the idea of having to work with that software to export...

The Inkling seems to be more of a proof of concept than a full-featured addition to a digital artist's set of tools... for now the Inkling doesn't do the things that serious artists need it to do well enough to replace their tried and true methods.

The Inkling has so much potential, but we just can’t see it delivering a faithful representation of a drawing for serious sketch artists. And for diagrams, rough sketches, and notes, while the Inkling performs well, it’s hard to justify the $199 cost.

It is cheaper than a high-end Wacom tablet and so should be more than enough to tempt gadget-loving artists.

If you're a creative professional that needs something to capture quick ideas on the go in a small and portable form factor then the Wacom Inkling is for you. At $200 though, it isn't a solution for a creative type that likes to sketch on paper.
