Vuzix is looking to enter the augmented reality world with their Smart Glasses M100. With the Smart Glasses M100 you can get glance-able information while walking about without looking away from what's in front of you. In addition to seeing email or text messages you can snap pictures and record video. Vuzix is hoping to bring this Android powered device to the market for mid-2013.

As headsets go it feels comfortable, lighter than many gaming headsets, but the battery is clocked for two hours of full use or up to eight hours on a "typical usage profile". You'll be able to use the smartglasses on top your normal glasses, and the image is discernable.

With a computer that's meant to rest over your eye, it needs to be easy to look at. Or at least manageable to look at. Or at least not frustrating to look at. The Vuzix M100 isn't any of these things yet.

It provided a bright, clear image that was easy to focus on even though it was visible only to my right eye (using the M100 for a long period might change that assessment). It appeared about as big as the display of a four-inch phone screen held at arm’s length.

Battery life may be the M100′s downfall. Vuzix is quoting up to eight hours of use, though that’s not solid runtime. Instead, the company expects users to turn their Smart Glasses on periodically, ... leave it on full-time, and the M100′s battery will last for more like two hours.

It may be claiming to be doing something new, but in actuality the Vuzix Smart Glasses M100 feels like an all-too-seamless step on from the Vuzix Wrap 920 video glasses, which we didn't think much of anyway.
