So I'd like to hear y'alls thoughts for those of us that are still using the original Unlimited data plan for AT&T. Its pretty fantastic they're going to let us keep it, but with not being able to use Facetime and the VZW phone being more likely for a world-LTE phone, is it a good time to jump ship? i hate the idea of shared data, and it seems Verizon is just about as expensive for a comparable plan. But I've heard great things about their network and LTE speed. As far as LTE goes- does...

News outlets, especially tech outlets, love hyperbole and talking about things getting more expensive. Let's look at how things are going in the mobile space and the market in general: LTE is here and coming to the most popular phone, iPhone in the next month or so. 3G coverage has spread beautifully to the point where losing signal is synonymous with losing 3G. It's great to see how the cell companies have spread their data to be available in more places at reasonable speed. One thing that isn't...

I'm finally ready to jump ship and move to Android, after several Blackberries. Our company account is with Verizon, so I'm only interested in their devices. What do you think, is the Galaxy S III such a superior device that its subpar battery life(in early reviews) is worth the sacrifice?
I want to get a device that will last the full 2 years without any regrets. Interested in opinions from current RAZR MAXX users especially.
With all the hoopla going down about Verizon's new shared data plans (http://gdgt.com/discuss/is-verizon-s-new-shared-p... there's still time for people who have unlimited data to keep it, at least for now. Verizon is requiring you to move to a tiered plan once you buy a new, subsidized phone, so you have two options:
Upgrade your phone now. These new plans kick in on June 28th, so you have time to buy a new phone. Droid Life has confirmed with Verizon if you buy...
Verizon has finally taken the covers off their upcoming shared plan structure for customers that is set to go into place June 28th. The basic break down of how the plans will work is as follows: Devices $40 per smartphone (tethering/hotspot is included) $30 for basic phones $20 per mifi/usb $10 per tablet Plans Unlimited minutes/text + 1GB data $50 2GB data $60 4GB data $70 6GB data $80 8GB data $90 10Gb data $100 More information can be found here (PDF):...

Lately, I've been getting pretty steamed over the policies that Verizon, my current carrier, have been putting in place to milk more money out of their customers. The most recent changes include a $30 phone upgrade fee and getting rid of unlimited data plans which really rustled my jimmies. It's coming to the point where I'm seriously considering finding a cheaper option even though my contract is still well over a year before it ends. After reading an article by Android and Me, "7 reasons to...

My Droid 2 just died on me recently and I really wanted to get the Galaxy Nexus, but my experience with Android has always been like a boyfriend girlfriend relationship :). If you know what I mean. My other options is either is the 4S on VZW or get the Nexus with my pending upgrade ? or upgrade to the 4S and buy the Galaxy unlocked and get a prepaid contract with unlimited with it ? There I will be able to get the next Google phone if Google will stay loyal to selling hardware.
i Was looking at a discussion about a palm pre without a data plan and i guy gave him a way to make it work. i Was wondering if that was the same solution with the palm pre pixie?
My mother (in the US) needs a new phone and would like basic email capabilities, but cannot justify the high cost of a monthly data plan. Do they still have 'feature phones' that do basic email without the high cost of a data plan? Also, sprint does not have good coverage where she lives and it is nice if she has a worldband phone that she can use when she visits me in Europe.
I am looking to "cut the cord" on wired broadband cable. Looking at 2 providers Clear and Verizon mobile hotspots. Can someone share their experience with the above vis a vis: Reliability of network Customer Service Speed - upload and download Clear offers unlimited plans vs Verizon which caps at 10GB but Verizon is more reputable...any comments on how best to choose
I want to "cut the cord" on TimeWarnerCable and opt for a mobile solution e.g Verizon mifi 4G LTE hotspot. I am worried about the 10GB data cap - I stream 2-3 TV episodes on AppleTV and will blow my 10GB data cap in no time with mifi...what are my options?
The folks over at Wired have gotten their hands on an interesting Department of Justice document from August 2010 called "Retention Periods of Major Cellular Service Providers" that details how long they hold onto your data: this includes subscriber info, cell and text message details, IP sessions, and so on. Wired has helpfully created some easy-to-read infographics to lay it all out: http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2011/09/cellular-customer-data/ As a T-Mobile customer it concerns me that they...

Watching some Monday Night Football and just saw this commercial for the iPad 2 on Verizon. Has anyone seen it? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKBebh_3Ub8 I know commercial advertising takes a lot of liberties, but nearly all the scenes show people using the iPad 2 outdoors under bright sunlight! Hah. Anyone who has used any smartphone or tablet (with a non e-ink display), knows it's pretty unenjoyable under bright sunlight. See previous discussions on gdgt:...

My ISP in NYC, Time Warner Cable is possibly one of the worse companies that I've ever had to deal with, along with giving super bad and inconsistent speeds. I've had more arguments with representatives from TWC than any other company that I've had to deal with over my course of living in NYC. It's unfortunate that they're my only option if I want Internet service or else I would have dropped them a long time ago. If Verizon offered an unlimited LTE tier in NYC, I would drop TWC in a second. I...

I say yes. I am not an iphone fan, I am too tied to my google products (gmail, google calendar, google voice) to move to the iphone. More than anything I am baffled about how little I have touched my laptop since getting my Thunderbolt.
As I'm sure you've heard by now T-Mobile USA is getting bought out by AT&T. According to the press release that means that T-Mobile is going away in about 1 year. Anybody who stays will become part of AT&T. So I ask are you going to switch to Verizon, Sprint or a regional; or stay with AT&T? Personalty I thing Verizon will be getting my money as soon as they come out with an LTE phone I like. Though the EVO 3D may tempt me mighty in the mean time.
As a loyal Verizon wireless customer I have for the longest time been waiting. For being such a major provider it has been amazing to see just how long it has taken them to actually get some of the major devices on their network. First was the long wait for the iPhone. I have wanted one since they came out but was not able to and willing to switch networks to acquire one. While waiting for the mythical Verizon iPhone to rear its head Microsoft launched Windows Phone 7. Admittedly I am a bit of a...

Verizon, Sprint, and AT&T (rumored, not official yet) are making some pricing changes that look cost prohibitive to their customers or taking away some discount offers that they've offered for years to keep customers. Usually when these types of pricing changes go into affect for one carrier, the rest follow. It's like clockwork. Here are the details of AT&T's purported pricing changes:...

In February 2013, I'm up for upgrade on Verizon. I currently have an iPhone 4. I'm going to get an iPhone 5 if I do upgrade, but I actually also want a Playstation Vita. If I do buy a Vita next month, I won't upgrade my iPhone until December 2013. I really like the idea of gaming on the go with physical controls, and I really like the game selection. They are both in the same general price range. What do you think? iPhone upgrade now and Vita never, or Vita now and iPhone upgrade in Christmas...
My wife hates the large screens on the new Androids. She loves her old Incredible but needs a replacement. What's the best Verizon Android with a smallish screen (or at least not at 5" one)
I'll be in Germany for a week or so at the end of September. I was wondering what my options were for pre paid mobile service, including data. The devices I have that take a sim card are a Galaxy S III and Blackberry Storm (both Verizon). Even they use different size cards...
I was wondering if anyone can help me out figure out what I should look for when I buy a prepaid SIM card & if anyone can confirm if (one of) these devices will work overseas.
I had to buy a new phone and decided to get a RAZR MAXX. 2 days later, I discover the Galaxy S3 will be coming out within my 14-day trial period on Verizon. I like the battery life of the MAXX but the S3 seems to have a better camera and includes S-Voice (a SIRI of sorts). So, stick with the RAZR or pay the $35 restocking fee and get the S3 when it comes out in the next few days?
Since the rumors about Verizon no longer grandfathering in unlimited data for people who are moving from a 3g phone to a 4g LTE phone I am looking to upgrade from my HTC Incredible now rather than wait and hope for Verizon to get the HTC One X. The main contenders are in order of my current top pick down are: Samsung Galaxy Nexus -Highest rated and least expensive (I don't mind spending money but I don't know if there is currently a Verizon phone that is worth it) -Only downsides are the camera...

My home is condersidered to be in Verizon's Extended Coverage area. I had two bars of LTE connectivity upon activating my 3rd Gen iPad at my home. I traveled to San Fran and couldn't connect. I followed some online instructions that suggested resetting Network Settings to factory default. Voila! I was connected to LTE once again. I came back to my home town and, once again, only 3G connectivity. Resetting wouldn't work. I found another online resource that said to use the "Request Reprovision"...

I have AT&T on my iPhone 4. I like to travel both in the US and outside the US. I've read different opinions around whether you need the LTE or not. Some get the WIFI only because they can use a MiFi device (like the Samsung 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot) for AT&T or Verizon and have that flexibility. Others recomend getting an LTE enabled iPad because it has GPS "Assisted". IF I go with an LTE which service has the greatest flexibility in the US and international? I don't know if I would use...

I am thinking of purchasing the galaxy note i have verizon as my service provider should i buy the international version or att . I rooted my last phone so i am not tech idiot but i am not familiar with unlock processes and lte capabilities if anyone cold help would be greatly appreciated.
Last week i have ordered a Kin Onem. I have bought it for using on Wi-Fi network or for Zune service like a Zune player. As you know it is a CDMA phone. So it is not supported in my country, therefore i won't be using it as phone. However i don't clearly know but i hope i will use it with my Zune account and Zune software any ideas? Additionally, i read many forums saying that i have to activate the phone from Verizone web site. Do i have to activate or unlock it to be able to use on Wi-Fi...
I'm up for my upgrade next month, and it doesn't look like I'll be able to get what I really want (a Windows phone) anytime soon. I don't want the iPhone, so I'm just wondering what the best options are.
I rooted my phone and I attempted to install the OTA ( I performed the necessary steps to keep my phone rooted), but the update didn't install correctly. However, I'm constantly reminded to install or download the update and it's getting annoying. Does anyone know if you can disable this notification using SQL Lite Editor or by any other means?
P.S. I'd rather not deal with unrooting and rerooting my phone and am trying to avoid it by any means possible.
My favorite part about Google Voice is using it for voicemail. Unfortunately, in the initial Google Voice setup on my Galaxy Nexus, it tells you that my carrier doesn't support that action or something. Apparently Verizon just wants to squeeze money out of their customers because they have their own visual voicemail but its $36/year (see also: phone and data plan costs).
Is there a workaround I can use in order to use Google Voice for voicemail on Verizon?
Last week, C.W. Nevius, a columnist for the San Francisco Chronicle, wrote an editorial on how to potentially curb smart-phone thieves. He argued that some carriers in foreign countries (e.g., Australia) will actually block mobile phones from their networks if reported stolen. (See: http://articles.sfgate.com/2011-12-03/bay-area/30473599_1_phone-companies-smart-phone-phone-thefts) From the SF Chronicle: Australia uses something akin to a serial number, basically a 15-digit fingerprint found on ...

I have verizon now but I don't have a data plan, however i am paying 10 bucks a month for unlimited texting. My plan ends at the end of December and I want a smartphone. Being a college student I would love to save money and Verizon's unlimited data plan is 30 bucks a month and stops at 2GB (i hear rumors of 4GB now). However I was searching on the internet and found out that Sprint has great smartphones and their unlimited data plan is not just actually unlimited(no cutoff mark or slowing you...

I really like that the dock comes w/ it. My current phone is an og droid and I went out and bought the car and media dock immediately and find them very useful. While I can see the silly-ness of the charm, I miss most calls while I am out of the apartment. I do think it is cute and kind of a good idea. Earbuds notoriously hurt my ears. So, those aren't much of a factor for me. 4G just came to my area, but all I hear about is the battery drainage, so I am not sure that the lack of 4G will be a...
