There is fraying where the cord meets the headphone jack which causes the sound to continuously jump from stereo to a single ear. I really enjoyed these in-ear headphones before this problem which is why I upgraded to the more sturdier SuperFi 5vi. Huge inprovement!
It appears the wires inside for the right channel have either broken or become disconnected which causes the volume on the right channel to decrease. When I bend the wire a certain way, the audio comes back to full volume, but bending it another way causes the volume to decrease dramatically. Its a shame, as I am out of warranty by 3 months and I liked these headphones a lot before this. However, I feel they should have lasted longer than 15 months.
Caution: some apps need to be individually configured in order to use the button as Play/Pause control. But this is an Android software issue and applies to all headphones, including the ones supplied by HTC.
Ultimate Ears MetroFi 220vi work fine with the Google Nexus One. With some apps, you need to individually configure that the button will work as Play/Pause button. But this is an Android issue and applies to all headphones.
My Metro-fi 200 earphones just broke. The cable insulation just below the cable strain relief gromet (that ridged rubber thing found on most cable ends) began to crack and expose the inner conductors. The problem lies in the type of plastic used for both the cable insulation and flex relief gromet. Both are very stiff so instead of flexing as they should it cracks at the weakest point. This case is worsened in cold weather.
A good seal improves bass response and keeps the earphones secured in the canal. The material used for the included ear tips don't seal well in the ear and often came loose from the earbuds. I picked up a pair of sony ear tips, not the 6 pack, these are green on the inside. The seal is much better and they hold on very well to the earbuds.
Hi, has anyone else had a problem with their UE Super.Fi 5 Pro cables? Specifically, a problem with the cable splitting about 1.5 inches from the ear bud. Exactly where the metal underwire ends and the normal wire continues. An additional problem is that Ultimate Ears is no longer selling the Super.fi 5 Pro and it looks like they have removed the $20 replacement cable. I should have bought one when I had the chance. Crap. Please write back if you have had this issue. Craig
Has anyone got any experience with these headphones with wear and tear in mind? I'm just wondering how they hold together during normal use. I've had a bad experience with a set of Shure 310s and cable shear which eventually meant that one earbud got severed from the cable just from normal wearing over the ear. So does anyone know how they stand up over an extended period of time and whether they suffer from the same cable shearing as the Shures do? Cheers
There is a new custom on the market. Former owner of Ultimate Ears, Jerry Harvey has a full line of customs. Among them are the JH-13's which feature 6 drivers in each ear. Any thoughts?
Difference between Ultimate Ears SuperFi 5Pro and Ultimate Ears SuperFi 5eb (Extended Bass) The pictured product is the Ultimate Ears SuperFi 5eb (Extended Bass) earphones. These are different from the Ultimate Ears SuperFi 5Pro earphones which I own and cannot add right now because of the product backlog gdgt.com is facing. Just figured I would point it out. -C
I bought these as my first in-ear product looking for a good, entry level pair. While the audio was very good, they just wouldn't stay in my ears. I tried all 3 silicon sizes that come with them and none would remain in my ear while walking down the street. I think it has something to do with the weight of the cord tugging on them in conjunction with no ones ear canal fits in to one of 3 choices perfectly. While they seemed to fit well while sitting down, the cords movement would always...
