One annoying thing is it doesn't have an optical drive which wouldn't be so bad if booting from USB wasn't so fickle. It will only boot off a Toshiba USB optical drive, and a small collection of devices from other manufacturers. Couldn't even get it to boot off a USB stick.

I have a 4 year old Toshiba Satellite A135 that runs Vista. It's a little beat up, but otherwise works fine. The processor is Intel Core 2 Duo 1.73 GHz, 110GB HD, and I upgraded the RAM from 1GB to 2 right away when I bought it from Bestbuy in 2007. The battery life sucks and it's heavy, but these things don't bother me anymore. I graduated college in 2008 and since have used it 95% of the time as a desktop, especially since getting my iPhone. Looking for a new laptop for grad school (economics) and it seems like I just can't find the right one. Got an advanced copy of Windows 7 Ultimate so I upgraded the laptop. Just wanted to report even though it took a long time (watch a show, play a game) the transition went smoothly. Only had to choose one option during the whole process. Runs a bit peppier now. Nothing dramatic but it is noticeable.

Does anyone have Windows 7 running on the Toshiba mini N205? My blue system has the 2GB upgrade, I've been running the win7 beta on other systems but haven't attempted an install on the 205. Any luck out there? Toshiba support?
So, it appears that while my Toshiba Satellite A205 is fully capable of Hardware assisted virtualization (the technology that powers windows 7 xp mode) the feature was intentionally disabled in the bios (with no switch to turn it on). Anyone discovered any hacks to get this feature turned on? Or does toshiba need to be chewed out for disabling existing features.
My M35 finally died when I couldn't get it to keep a charge. The power connector became loose, and even though I bought a new connector and tried to solder it myself, I never got it to work properly. I found this was a common issue with the M35 from various forums that helped me troubleshoot the issue.
