With so many other Windows 8 convertibles available or arriving soon, we suspect your money would be better spent elsewhere.

The mechanical elements of the Toshiba Satellite U925t convertible laptop are complex, but well-made. It won't be your main machine, but it's one of the more usable Windows 8 launch experiments.

We applaud Toshiba's non-standard ideas. We liked the super wide ultrabooks. But it's unlikely you want to come aboard the Satellite—the creative thinking is just not implemented well enough to recommend yet.

The sliding touchscreen of the Toshiba Satellite U925t makes this an intriguing, two-in-one Windows 8 device, but it falls short.

If this were a $700 device, it’d be easy to recommend the Satellite U925t as a tagalong Windows 8 tablet. But given its limitations in both slate and keyboard mode, it’s a tough sell at a price that puts it at the high end of hybrids.

... it's just too heavy to use as a tablet. If you're not in it for the touchscreen, then we recommend the Portégé Z930, which has better processor power and more connectivity... And it costs less.

Toshiba could have made the Satellite U920t-100 a convertible for the competition to fear ... Unfortunately, due to certain flaws, Toshiba failed to achieve this status for its newest convertible.
