Conclusion: Pass on it

Toshiba's Excite 10 has a few useful features, including HDMI and USB ports — as well as a full-size SD card slot — that make it an interesting tablet. Put those aside, though, and it's nothing spectacular, and with a price that's higher than both the iPad 2 and the Asus Transformer Pad 300, there's little reason to choose the Excite — unless you must have the massive amount of storage offered by that SD card slot.

While $450 is not chump change, the Excite 10 might be worth it if you have your heart set on a 10-incher running Android. However, for the same price, you can get Android tablets from Acer and ASUS that provide longer battery life and equal -- if not better -- performance.

The bottom line: The Toshiba Excite 10 provides Tegra 3 performance and huge expandable memory potential, but is priced a bit too high compared with other tablets.

The Excite 10 is one of the most powerful and beautifully designed 10-inch tablets you can buy right now, but it can't match the iPad on features, and there are better values in the Android world.

With its vibrant display, excellent performance, good port selection and expandable memory, the $449 Excite 10 is a much better value than the $529 Excite 10 LE. However, the mediocre camera and below-average battery life keep this slate from being a top pick.

The AT300 is, in our view, worth considering, but we'd say if there are deals on other tablets you'll find the likes of Asus and Samsung more appealing. A great improvement, colour us impressed.

Donning a vastly better looking design combined with some muscle flexing hardware specs, there’s enough to like about the $450 priced Toshiba Excite 10... but we’d still settle for a $500 Asus Transformer Prime any day of the week.

The Toshiba AT300 isn't going to cause anyone's jaw to drop in terms of looks – it's only once you get this quad-core monster fired up that you'll appreciate its inner beauty.

Despite its downsides, the Excite 10 is actually a very nice tablet. It has a premium look and feel, solid performance, and some pretty fantastic and useful software tweaks. Of course, it's a bit on the pricey side compared to the competition

I find this tablet to be as nice as the ASUS I had but without any of the hardware issues. It does everything and more that I wanted it to. It is super fast and can run numerous apps without any lag or freeze ups. This was my replacement for an ASUS. The ASUS power button went bad from the...
