I was thinking about having a gps as a gift for my mom. She is 65, never had one, does not use a cellphone or a computer. She only drives short distances that she has known for years and does not venture beyond that, partly because of the unknown. I'm thinking she now has time to go longer distances. I may be arguing semantics, but this is NOT the correct screen for the GPS I own and submitted. The pictured layout of the screen on this page is wrong! The XL 335 LM displays more information and in a different way. The device is specifically the LM (for lifetime maps) and I still have the product's original packaging to prove it....
I've been looking for something to mount to my bike so that I don't get lost when trying out new routes. While several companies have discussed doing software specific to cycling for the iPhone and one has even announced a handlebar mount, I just don't feel comfortable having my phone that exposed. The TomTom Ease seems like it would be small enough and light enough to not be too precariously perched there. What does everyone else think?
Got it for my dad during the Black Friday deals... was $149 from Best Buy. First impressions: It is very thin... on the sides at least. It is very thin on each side, but bulges towards the middle in the back. I find the map software for my 130S to be abysmal. It fails to find changes to highways which have been completed for upwards four years. In Pittsburgh, it suggested that I levitate 50 feet onto the highway above me. Have any of the uses found better maps? Are we able to do do mapshare changes with the 130S?
We own factory built-in GPS units in all our cars. Recently, we bought a used car for our son that doesn't have a GPS unit. So we bought the TomTom GO 630 for it a few weeks ago. A couple weekends ago, wife and son were driving to a friend's house that was hard to find on some GPSes. we have had some issues with our 330. it seems to take a while for it to find a GPS signal when we turn it on (2-6min typically) and sometimes "freaks out" like spins the route we are on -- once thought we were driving on the side of the road or something... It can be really frustrating. in any event, we thought it was mostly due to the city we live in but found that it would sometimes act wonky when we were driving towards toronto. I am curious if it is the machine? tomtom products?...

but if I already have an idea how to get there, it doesn't seem to agree that its the best route. Also, once or twice it has been wrong enough about where I am to lead me down a dirt road that ended at a train track. I can't fault it because It's eventually gotten me where I've needed to go every time I've used it. Has anyone else had a similar experience?
This is a great GPS unit, but TomTom's pricing of maps is ludicrously expensive. I've updated my unit to the latest firmware and maps and now have traffic data here in Australia, IQ and all the good stuff.

My wife switched from the OG Droid to the iPhone 4 a couple months back. The biggest thing she's missing is Google Maps + Navigation. The maps software built into iOS is ok but only when we need simple walking directions or just quick look up. I know there are app options but the cost of some make think twice about trying them out. Has anyone used any of the paid options and if so what were your impressions?

I'm moving across the country next month (to NYC), and I'm looking to grab the best TBT navigation app. Both Navigon and Magellan have updated their apps recently, and I've heard great things about both. I downloaded the newly available European map update for my Go 720 and now it will not start up. It is stuck in a continuous loop showing the start-up splash screen and then restarting. I have tried resetting it using the recessed button and a paperclip but it's staying the same. Does anyone know how I can fix this? To my shame, I failed to create a backup and I can't find a function on TomTom Home on my PC that will help me reset the device. The good news (I hope) is that it does...
Does anyone'snXL one randomly turn on? Mine has been doing this lately. I will be asleep and hear turn left...etc. So somehow it is turning on after i definitely turn the blasted thing off
I can connect my Storm via bluetooth for calls but cannot connect for data usage (needed for live weather and traffic updates etc.) Has anyone had success? Please share your experience.
My unit regularly gets locked up into a state where it won't power on. The TomTom site has a procedure for getting around this that involves holding down the little reset button with a paper clip for 15 (30?) seconds and then turning it on. This works, but isn't possible to do when you try to turn it on as you're driving. This has happened to me a half dozen times since I got it. It seems like it might happen when the battery runs all the way down. Anyone else have this problem?
