I know the XL4 has a bigger HDD, can record 4 shows at once and is THX certified but is there any other features I wouldn't get if I got the base model? I ask because I am partially thinking of getting rid of cable and getting an HD antenna (Premiere standard only) but in the case I don't take that route, I don't want to regret not buying the "better version". I currently don't have a DVR and I'm paying $12/mo to rent a crap HD tuner from fios. I know the DVR function will be great to have but I...

I'm looking to use my primary home theater's TiVo Premiere to play back video on a second TV set downstairs in the bedroom, and I've got hard ethernet, coax, and power as means of transit. Originally I was just looking alternatives to the TiVo Preview (which, knowing TiVo, probably won't be available to consumers until sometime later in 2012 -- if we're really lucky) and TiVo MRV (I don't really want to pay for a second TiVo, plus service), but at the end of the day it's probably easier to just...

When I switch from one of the TiVo menus to a recorded program, I get audio but no video. Powering off the receiver and turning it back on again solves the problem. Any ideas? Hardware issue, configuration, etc? This only happens with the TiVo and this receiver when connected over HDMI. If I connect directly to my TV via HDMI, problem doesn't happen. Further, it only seems to happen on recorded programs, not when watching live. Any suggestions? Thx Matt
I see the Tivo Premier has one cable and one antenna coax connection. Tivo claims they can record two channels at once. On the DirecTV/Tivo's I've had that is achieved by two coax connections. So is this no longer an issue or can the premier record one channel from cable and one channel from the antenna at the same time?
Thinking about cancelling my cable and just going with an HD antenna for local stuff, but wouldnt mind being able to dvr things still. Thought I could just purchase a tivo device, didnt realize there was a monthly cost.
Has anyone else had an issue with the TiVo iPad app being unable to find a TiVo Premiere box on the network? Things were working fine not too long ago, but I haven't used the app for a bit and after upgrading tonight (to version 1.0.4 build 1727) I keep getting an error: "This application is intended for use with TiVo Premiere boxes only. While we found an older model of TiVo DVR on your local network, we could not find a TiVo Premiere box. Checkout the special TiVo upgrde offer at...

This issue is being caused by the interaction between the MediaSmart Server ex495 and the Tivo. I can not determine how to remove the mediasmart expander tivo add in. it does not seem to be a traditional add-in. I am looking for help. Thanks Equipment Tivo Premiere XL Media Smart Server ex495 imac i3 December 2010
The unit arrived and I make an appointment with the cable company to come out and install the required mutli-stream card. The cable company came to my house twice with only a single stream card. So after about a week and 3 or 4 phone calls I finally got the required card installed. The unit worked the first day. Then it stopped displaying a picture. After having the cable company out several more times and about 6 calls to Tivo support, I got the unit exchanged. Now the second unit is doing the...
