Comcast is giving me the ultimate runaround with my this new CableCARD that I picked up today for my newly arrived TiVo HD XL.

Right now I have all my listing information and everything, can tune all SD channels but only 20 or so of the 100 HD channels that I am subscribed to are able to be tuned. So I called them and Comcast rep #1 bumped my card. Two hours later when I still couldn't tune to those HD channels, Comcast rep #2 bumped my card again. 30 minutes after that call, 5 or 6 HD channels started picking up. 6 hours later, still nothing. Just discovered this, but it's been out for a while. iTivo is a google code hosted product that connects your mac to your tivo, and will download and transcode shows. It supports auto importing into subscriptions, so you can auto download your favorite shows to watch on the go, and scheduling, so you can do the download/transcode late at night. I just got my Tivo HD hooked up yesterday and God I missed it so much! I hated the cable company dvr with a passion. Everything is great but I really wish that Tivo would upgrade their standard menu interface to support HD resolutions. Initially I kept checking to make sure that the unit was displaying at the right Res until I realized that this was as good as it got unless your inthe Tivo Search app which does display in HD, albeit a bit slow. When the Series 3 and progenitors (HD and XL) came out 30 second skip was nominally removed. But it is still there, you just have to turn it on. 1) Start the playback on any program in your list. 2) During playback press the following sequence on your Tivo remote: Select - Play - Select - 3 - 0 - Select 3) You should hear three bongs (if you don't have the TiVo sounds disabled), and you're done. Tivo needs to drop the service fee

Tivo needs to get with the times. Their device is a fair bit better than the cable company provided DVRs. It is also dramatically overpriced when you factor in the service fee. As Tivo's earnings over the past years has borne out-- there is a very limited market of people willing to pay a large premium for a marginally better experience (at one point Tivo may have been way ahead, but that was quite awhile ago). I love Tivo...I love my Tivo, in fact i love Tivo so much that i really cant watch tv on anything else. They have done a great job with the UI and a great job keeping up with their on demand library. So whats my problem? Advancement.... This was the first company to advance us into the DVR generation, but beyond there it has not seen a major resfresh in ten year.
