I am considering switching my tv subscription from DirecTV, which I love but it's still expensive compared to an HD antenna. Over the years I have become so in love with having a DVR (I used to have Comcast) that I couldn't imagine going back so I would need something like TiVo if I made the swtich. Doing some research it seems that the Leaf+ is the best option out there, and the TiVo Premiere XL will work with anything. The HD antenna is pretty cheap and seems that I can mount it inside, even...

This video show it http://youtu.be/AXO_GZob0M0 Tivo's work around is to switch back to the SD UI but if I wanted that I would have bought Tivo 3 for a lot less money. I have been living with this for 3 months now. The also have no idea how long it will be until they have a fix. When I suggest they roll back the software to before the issue started, they claim they can not do that. Not being able to go back if the roll out fail is a cardinal sin of software implantation. On a new front Tivo...

I was thinking of keeping it pretty simple with a cable box DVR, Xbox360, and then I was thinking about investing in a netbox and installing XBMC up in there so that I can play old video games and get all of the streaming goodness that comes with XBMC. I was thinking of ditching the cable box DVR and going with Tivo instead, but other than that, is there anything that I am missing? Any suggestions?
I know Ryan hinted a few months back that this might have basic functionality with Series 2 boxes -- anyone know if that ultimately ended up being the case?
The unit arrived and I make an appointment with the cable company to come out and install the required mutli-stream card. The cable company came to my house twice with only a single stream card. So after about a week and 3 or 4 phone calls I finally got the required card installed. The unit worked the first day. Then it stopped displaying a picture. After having the cable company out several more times and about 6 calls to Tivo support, I got the unit exchanged. Now the second unit is doing the...

Right now I have all my listing information and everything, can tune all SD channels but only 20 or so of the 100 HD channels that I am subscribed to are able to be tuned. So I called them and Comcast rep #1 bumped my card. Two hours later when I still couldn't tune to those HD channels, Comcast rep #2 bumped my card again. 30 minutes after that call, 5 or 6 HD channels started picking up. 6 hours later, still nothing. Just got off the horn with Comcast rep #3 and after explaining to them...

1TB drive earlier. Over the past few weeks I'd thought about springing for a TiVo Premiere -- the UI on my Scientific Atlanta box is just awful -- but for an investment of just $65 I was able increase my DVR's recording capacity ten fold. And since actually watching a TV show will be the same whatever box I use, it seemed like this was a better value for my money than any other option right now.
Here's why: I have owned almost every version of TiVo over the years. (10+ units) I have really enjoyed using TiVo and have always seen each new version as an upgrade that was better than the last. So far the my new Tivo Premiere XL is proving to be the exception. I have read that they are still working on the software and will make it faster in a future update but in my opinion they should not be shipping this product yet. For the first time in my TiVo experience, I'm having issues...

I have this Tivo, and recently stopped receiving service due to my credit card being expired. I was going to update it but then I thought about it and asked myself, is a TVGuide really the monthly charges? It's ridiculous if you ask me. Since it's relatively old now, I might just get another DVR that doesn't have this crappy monthly service charges.
After listening to the most recent Engadget HD podcast (#181), the guys over at Engadget discussed at length the optimal (DVR) set top boxes available. When The Boxee Box was announced, I was convinced this would be my first set-top box (outside of my 360). Now with the TiVo Premiere announcement, I could get a set-top box with DVR capabilities (albeit with a high up front cost of ~$700). The Engadget HD guys didn't seem to thrilled with the TiVo Premiere. I've never owned a DVR, so I...

I almost pre-ordered the Premiere today, but just couldn't do it. The price for the box itself isn't so bad -- I was going to buy the $299 model -- but the price for monthly service held me back (it's $12.95/month, $299 for three years or $399 for lifetime). That raises the total cost of ownership to a level that just feels like a bit too much to spend when I already feel like I watch more TV than I should. The integrated online services are nice, but I get most of those through...

Wrote up an article for this here: http://bit.ly/dB927Z. Basically I think it is an evolutionary step in the right direction for Tivo but falls short of being what it should as gateway to media content in a network.
Recently, I ask the good folks over gdgt, what good alternative options there are over cable, and the suggestions were outstanding. I did cut the cord, now my other question to you is, what about the Tivo? Do you still a cable provider for it or you can use it to stream online content ?
I'm looking to use my primary home theater's TiVo Premiere to play back video on a second TV set downstairs in the bedroom, and I've got hard ethernet, coax, and power as means of transit. Originally I was just looking alternatives to the TiVo Preview (which, knowing TiVo, probably won't be available to consumers until sometime later in 2012 -- if we're really lucky) and TiVo MRV (I don't really want to pay for a second TiVo, plus service), but at the end of the day it's probably easier to just...

Has anyone else had an issue with the TiVo iPad app being unable to find a TiVo Premiere box on the network? Things were working fine not too long ago, but I haven't used the app for a bit and after upgrading tonight (to version 1.0.4 build 1727) I keep getting an error: "This application is intended for use with TiVo Premiere boxes only. While we found an older model of TiVo DVR on your local network, we could not find a TiVo Premiere box. Checkout the special TiVo upgrde offer at...

This issue is being caused by the interaction between the MediaSmart Server ex495 and the Tivo. I can not determine how to remove the mediasmart expander tivo add in. it does not seem to be a traditional add-in. I am looking for help. Thanks Equipment Tivo Premiere XL Media Smart Server ex495 imac i3 December 2010
It was working fine for the last year. Our building just converted from Comcast analog to Digital. Because I already had Cable Cards in my Tivo, I didn't need to get a converter box or do anything special, but after the conversion, I am no longer able to play the DVD and see/record it on Channel 4. It says something like no channel detected. If the DVD player is on, and I go into the setup / video on my tivo, it shows great DIGITAL signals for everything but channel 4. This is just a guess:...

Two days ago I went to "Explore this program" for a TV show I had recorded and the interface changed to a beta version of the new UI that is currently on the Premier boxes.
How does Over The Air HD work with Tivo? Does anyone have experience? Can I cancel my Tivo subscription if I dont need their EPG? I am assuming I can use the signal from the antenna as a source and then set my Season Passes to be hard coded to channel and time. Is there a better solution?
I recently upgraded to the TiVo HD XL and wanted to give my Series2 to my parents who have DirecTV. Are the Series2 and DirecTV compatible? Is it as easy as plugging the TiVo in and picking the service provider during the on screen setup? Thanks!
