For beginning to intermediate players, the wheel is a great way to get their feet wet in the world of PC racing sims by putting control of the various assists and safety nets right there on the controller's face.

Even in the open air the SRW-S1 is a fine PC steering wheel controller, small enough to fit in a desk drawer while responsive enough to compete with the more expensive mounted units. It's got the power, it just doesn't quite have the touch.

The SRW-S1 Steering Wheel from Steelseries may not be everyone's first choice, but the features packed in at this price makes it a very plausible solution to any racer's choice of weapons!

If you don’t have the space or the cash for a real racing setup, I would recommend checking out the SRW-S1. It provides a sense of simulation beyond the keyboard and is a step towards driving down the path of serious racing.

The fact that it's not clamped to a desk does make it far more convenient, and the multiple buttons and dials - that can be used for racing games other than Simraceway - are excellent. But we feel that it misses out on being the ultimate gaming steering wheel due to lack of feedback.

The wheel retails at $120/€120, not particularly cheap but not overly expensive either considering we get a high quality motion controller and a voucher to buy in-game items.

Given the price tag for the Simraceway S1 Steering Wheel, it's a tough call. The build quality is good, the small form factor allows for easy setup, and I really like the paddles -- but the use of accelerometers and lack of force feedback could be considered deal breakers depending on your needs.

You'll be astounded at how much faster you are, and how much more immersive it is to use a the SRW-S1 than a pad. At around £100 it's very good value for money and we're happy to award it our OC3D Gamers Choice award.
