SteelSeries makes great keyboards and mice, but headphones have always been a weakness of theirs. The 7H isn’t bad, really, but considering what’s out there for the same price or less, it’s a hard set to recommend.

The SteelSeries 7H USB gaming headset provides very good sound quality, along with convenient features like a retractable mic and the ability to be disassembled for easy portability, all at a price under $100. But reviews are mixed on comfort and build quality, with some users and critics raising concerns about fit and durability. Our advice: given their good audio quality, these could be worth considering, but you should find a retailer (or friend who has a set) who will let you try them on, and see how they fit your head. And save your receipt, in case you need to get them repaired under SteelSeries' one-year warranty.

Any improvements that SteelSeries claims to have made have fallen on deaf ears. That said, the 7H still has above average audio quality and excellent mic quality (when you throw away the USB dongle).

If you lean more towards the gaming side, the 7Hs are a good purchase — but at this price if you're more music inclined, it's probably time to start looking at mid-range headphones...

These quibbles can't detract from the appeal of the headphones though, and they're appealing both aurally and aesthetically.
Read the full review →The SteelSeries 7H and 7H USB completely blow away other headsets in the same price range. For gaming they are flawless and when listening to music they come close to matching headsets which are more than twice their price.

Read the full review →It's rare that we get a product that hasn't got any little niggles to spoil things... there are none. The SteelSeries 7H are staggering. Even though the price is at the premium end of the non-audiophile headset market the product is so brilliant that they're almost a bargain.
