You'll enjoy good performance and more games than are available for any other controllers, but you'll pay more for the titles.

As a game console, the PS2 kicks the pants off the competition, with superb graphics and audio. For those without standalone DVD players, it fills that role well, too. PS2 units may be hard to get, ... but we'd suggest picking up the first PS2 you can find.

The game library started to dwindle once the PS3 came out and some of my favourite game series ended up on the PS3 with no PS2 compatible version. Good console, but relatively pointless now thanks to the PS3. Backward compatibility, Microsoft; learn it.

The only console I would put ahead of the PS2 as of July 2009 is the SNES. The PS2 is backwards compatible with all PS1 games- which include classic titles like: Metal Gear Solid Final Fantasy VII Castlevania Symphony of the Night The PS2 is not dead- there are still strong titles coming out...
