In the end the Sony NSZ-GS7 is a solid follow-up with some much-appreciated enhancements over previous Google TV hardware. The remote is far and away the greatest improvement, but the HDMI-CEC and other new hardware features don't go unnoticed.

Sony gets a lot right on the hardware side with the NSZ-GS7, its Google TV-based media streamer. It has a good remote and keyboard, plenty of input and output options, and HDMI-CEC for easy control of compatible devices. Unfortunately, the Google TV software continues to lag competitors like Roku and Apple, and suffers from reliability and usability issues. The NSZ-GS7 also sells for double the price of 3rd-generation Apple TV and Roku 2 XS, both of which are gdgt Must-have media players. While Sony deserves some credit for creating an elegant, well-designed piece of hardware, the NDZ-GS7's price and software issues make it a non-starter for now — though both can be addressed over time, so it's always possible that the device may be worth reconsidering in the future.

The Sony Internet Player With Google TV (NSZ-GS7) is one of the better ways to get Google TV on your HDTV, even if the platform itself still suffers from a lack of polish.
Read the full review →The Sony NSZ-GS7 has sleek hardware and an innovative remote, but it's hampered by the still too-limited and frustrating Google TV software.
Read the full review →Someday, someone—probably Apple ... will probably pull off the next great leap in television. A television that makes it as easy as possible to find and watch things, to sit and be entertained, that knows and loves both the internet and old fashioned programming. Simply, this ain't it.
Read the full review →In the end the Sony Internet Player with Google TV becomes just another box. One that is fun for a gimmick, but we doubt it’s one that you would use every day over the other devices on the market.
Read the full review →The Sony NSZ-GS7 Internet Media Player with Google TV brings the world of Android apps to your TV, including web browsing while still watching live TV, but the software is buggy and frustrating.
Read the full review →If you're a Google TV fan, it's time to upgrade to newer hardware. Do it for the video quality, do it for the games, do it for better browsing. Not much else has changed, as Google TV still seems to be just a hair short of being fabulous.
Read the full review →So is Google TV better than the cheaper options, Apple TV or an Xbox 360? Hardware-wise, absolutely not - and the software is not as impressive, either - though with a friendlier, far more streamlined remote and a growing list of apps on Google Play there could be a future.
Read the full review →Overall, the more we tried to use the Google TV box, the more irritated we became by not just its practical issues but also its philosophical ones. Ultimately we came away from our tests feeling that the whole concept of having open Internet flexibility on your TV - via an external box, especially -...
Read the full review →My favorite top box in the market right now. Tons of features, hardware and software wise. Pretty easy to use if you're familiar with the android os. I've had an apple tv and a Ruku xd and so far my Sony NSZ-GS7 out preforms in every way.
Read the full review →Note: I'm using the pre-release version that was given out at the Sony event during Google I/O. Hopefully many of these issues will be fixed before release. Horrible interface and buggy software. As of this writing the default media player is just a placeholder that says "coming soon". The...
