I wore these for years when I commuted to work on BART (The SF Bay Area transit system). Noise levels in these trains can be loud and if you crank up the volume with your iPod earbuds you will damage your hearing. The best solution is to get some of these affordable noise-canceling headphones. These take re-chargeable AAA batteries so I kept an extra one in my messenger bag. One battery will last me for weeks on one charge. Sadly, these headphones got damaged when I was attacked by a homeless guy in Oakland. I was unscathed by the headphones flipped off my head and got a crack in them. I'll gladly buy another pair!
