The bottom line: A lot of camera, both in lens and features, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX200V is a solid choice for point-and-shoot users looking to do a little more than that.

[A] very good super zoom camera. Its photo quality isn't as good as I'd like, but for the majority of people who will buy it, the smudged details that you'd see when viewing the photos on your computer will just blend away when images are downsized for printing or web viewing.

The HX200V may be up against some other tip-top 30x zoom cameras but it more than holds its weight. This is one feature-packed superzoom that delivers across the board.

Offering an impressive 30x optical zoom (27-810mm equivalent) and a ton of features, this DSLR-like superzoom camera is a great all-in-one imaging solution for travel photographers, and is capable of yielding good prints up to 16 x 20-inch.

Sony's new super zoom, the HX200 combines a gaggle of features...and one-touch full HD video capture capability in a relatively small, DSLR-like package with a big zoom lens and a high resolution sensor, at least by point-and-shoot standards.

It not only features a full specification, but also comes with a host of proprietary Sony technology that marks it out as a premium product. That said we do have a few gripes with the HX200V – given the price the lack of Raw capture is a glaring omission.

As an all in one with ‘DSLR lite’ style handling that really does offer most, if not all, of what you need - and delivers consistently high image quality - the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX200V takes some beating if a big zoom really is chief among your imaging requirements.
