The SLT-A99 is a feature-rich camera that still provides a wealth of easily accessed manual user controls. It stands out as the only full frame camera to offer in-body stabilization, an EVF and articulated rear screen. Budding videographers will enjoy brisk AF performance as well as the option to...

Sony's latest full-frame DSLR may be expensive, but as a full-frame, pro-level camera, it largely delivers. DPReview says it "combines very good image quality with a high degree of camera customization and an ergonomically well-designed control layout," and offers "impressive dynamic range, top-notch low-light performance and impressive video specifications." USA Today calls it an "amazing DSLR" and says "the autofocusing for stills can't be beat, the image quality is stellar, and features like the Sweep Panorama mode and HDR may sound gimmicky, but they work really well." Of course, for about the same price, you can get a Canon EOS 5D Mark III or Nikon D600, and whether you pick the A99 over one of those may depend as much on how much you've invested in compatible lenses and your comfort with each brand's controls as anything else.

This particular 99 is all cone and Flake - it's a scoop short in a handful of key areas and, in particular when considering its nearby competitors, comes at a price that's a big push too.

It is also a very capable stills camera that can produce great images with natural colours and good exposure.
Read the full review →For stills photography you may want to save some money and look at some of the other full frame cameras, but if you take high speed photography or are interested in video recording then the Sony Alpha A99 certainly stands out - it also takes some excellent photos.
Read the full review →The A99 is an exciting camera that will challenge most photographers but is enjoyable and very satisfying to use. Its ergonomics and high-resolution EVF make it better suited for shooting movies than its main rivals because you can record video while using the viewfinder.
Read the full review →It's hard to give an overall rating for the A99. We loved using it, and the small autofocus coverage was rarely a big nuisance. When we got the photos back home for inspection, we loved this camera even more.
Read the full review →Sony has pulled out the stops for this camera, which competes successfully with top-of-the-line Canon and Nikon models. It's got a wider accessory lineup of sharp Zeiss lenses than in the past, and a cool new flash unit that doubles as a video light.
