The Seagate Backup Plus is a worthy successor to the venerable GoFlex line, offering a killer combination of speed, ease of use, and versatility, all while innovatively incorporating social networking.

As the successor to the FreeAgent Go Flex, the Seagate Backup Plus Portable keeps all of the key features of its predecessor, including USB 3.0, and optional adapters for other interfaces like Thunderbolt and Firewire 800. So what's new? The Backup Plus is faster than the GoFlex, and Seagate's backup software has been reworked, adding options to back up files to Facebook, YouTube and other social networking sites. Of course, you don't have to use the social features (or even Seagate's software) to get a lot of out of this drive, and if you're looking for a reliable, flexible, upgradeable portable drive, the Backup Plus Portable is the one to get.

Seagate Backup Plus carries the flexibility of the GoFlex portable drive while adding performance and style to portable storage. The new drive makes an excellent buy.

Read the full review →The Seagate Backup Plus Portable for Mac is perfectly named. It doesn't purport itself to be the fastest drive, but it is a lot faster than the FireWire 800 and USB 2.0 drives made for Macs. If you need backup for your Mac, period, then take a look at this drive.

Read the full review →Seagate’s Backup Plus is flexible, easily portable, quiet, and affordable. However, it’s not an impressive speed performer, and if you want the added transfer speeds provided by Thunderbolt or USB 3.0, you’re going to have to spend some extra cash.
Read the full review →So, if it’s a hard drive you’re looking for, the Seagate is ideal. If you want a super cloud-based backup solution, it’s not quite as useful. Although there is absolutely no reason Seagate couldn’t improve the problems with the software.
Read the full review →The Seagate Backup Plus Portable Drive comes with software that can backup your Facebook and Flickr photos in addition to your computer's data. However, the implementation of that feature could be better and some other aspects of the software need to be worked on, too.
Read the full review →Overall, the Seagate Backup Plus is a capable and compact portable hard drive that makes backing up your data simple, as it should be.
Read the full review →Seagate Backup Plus is a quality drive at a good price. If they hadn't have dropped one of its key features for the Mac version of its support application, the mark would be significantly higher.
Read the full review →While offering a great backup solution is one of the key selling points of the Backup Plus series, it is nice to see that performance was no overlooked in the process. CrystalDiskMark confirmed that USB 3.0 read and write speeds in excess of 100MB/s were possible, and real world usage has been quite...

Read the full review →I bought this external hard disk for one reason - to tear it open. Tearing it open meant that I could use the internal hard disk inside, to replace the dying HDD on my MacBook Pro. And thank heavens I found this relatively easy to open HDD. Without any tools, the plastic housing easily came...
Read the full review →Great speeds, very fast. Very good looking rushed aluminium top. USM adapter you can buy a thunderbolt or firewire cable or usb 4.0 cable (when released). Also plug straight into some computers/tvs for sata speeds. Quite durable, has aluminium top, but brushed so harder to see any scratches....

Read the full review →I'm using 4 of these. 2 of them are internal drives, I put the original, lesser drives, in the cases and now I enjoy the excellent flexibility of the USB 3 external as well, while my notebooks had a boost in performance from these 1 TB hard disks. The price is right for the capacity and the USB 3...
Read the full review →I got this as a surprise for a holiday present from a friend. At 1TB it's a great device for my Mac Mini because if needed, I can roll the installation back many a time. It's pretty (sleek) enough and fairly unassuming. The size isn't so important where portability is concerned (my installation...
