I'm happy to report that I finally pulled the plug and cancelled my cable TV service.
details
Recently I did something I'd been promising to do for a while: I cancelled my Time Warner cable TV service. I'd been thinking about it for a long time, finally came to the conclusion that while I do really like TV, I just wasn't watching enough of it anymore to justify the $100 I was spending for cable each month (I subscribed to the basic service plus HD channels and also paid a monthly fee to rent an HD-DVR). So to follow up on what I wrote last week, I have to say that I'm really glad I did this and only wish I'd taken the plunge earlier and bought this…

Just unplug the DVR, connect and power up the drive, plug the DVR back in, and then once it reboots it asks to format the drive. That takes about two minutes, and then you're set! Now I have about 90 hours of HD recording capacity, and am looking forward to not having to...

video cuts out briefly, occasionally
details
My 8300 has a quirk that is bugging me. It occasionally (less than once an hour) blanks out the screen for 2-3 seconds. I'm not sure if it is really the 8300's fault of if it could be my TV or possibly my cable connection. I will say that the sound does NOT cut out when the video does. Here is something that is interesting: sometimes it happens during DVR playback. Anybody else have this problem? If so, any reasonable solution? Yes, I could trade it in for a new one at my cable company,...
