Conclusion: We're mixed

This ultrabook comes just short of being a good buy. At $849, it's cheaper than many competing models. Unfortunately, it's also heavier, thanks to its DVD drive, and has relatively poor battery life. That doesn't make it a bad computer. But without the key advantages of an ultrabook — especially long battery life and light weight — the Ultra competes more squarely against mainstream 14-inch laptops, many of which are more powerful and cost significantly less.

The Samsung Series 5 530U (4B-A01) Ultrabook is more of a thin and light 14in ultraportable and Macbook Pro rival than a competitor to the 13in Ultrabooks already on the market - but either way it’s a sleek, attractive yet affordable laptop.

Samsung has produced a well-rounded and affordable Ultrabook in the Series 5 Ultra 530U3B ... although power and battery life are sacrificed, the price-point of the Series 5 Ultrabook is particularly attractive and gives this machine a real chance against its better styled and more powerful rivals.
