There is no doubt that the Samsung Galaxy S III has an impressive spec sheet. Even though the phone doesn't bring much new to the table, it appears that it will be competing with HTC's One X for the throne atop the Android mountain. One part of Samsung's new device has me less than impressed though. The device is a totally plastic, wholly generic, typically Samsung design. In the age of One S, X, Lumia 900, and the iPhone 4S, the look and feel of the Galaxy S III is out of step. Build quality...

According to a new study, more than 70% of smartphone users spend almost nothing on apps, which means the remaining 30% are on the hook to keep the $20 billion app economy alive. As Engadget puts it: We know smartphone and tablet owners like to buy games. But if you go by a new ABI exploration of user habits, most of us aren't buying much of anything. More than 70 percent of the crowd spends little to nothing on mobile apps, dragging down the average of $14 spent per month among paying customers...

Okay, so I am looking to buy a camera for anywhere between $200-280. What do you guys think I should get? I was hoping to get something that could take really good pictures in the dark and when it was bright outside, something that could record in 1080p, something that could record audio very well along with video that had a good fps rate, something that had good zoom and megapixels and if ti had auto adjust that would be cool. Also if you guys could point out anything that is useful to have in...

Word is out today that Samsung plans to dramatically scale back production of point-and-shoots in favor of mirrorless interchangeable-lens compacts. While one company's move doesn't mean the whole industry is about to shift, sales of basic point-and-shoots have been on decline for a while, supplanted by smartphones on the low end, and by more sophisticated models -- including compact superzooms and ILCs -- on the high end. As Engadget puts it: Samsung's imaging chief Han Myoung-sup told the WSJ...

I am just curious as to the evolution of users' cell phones over time. I realize this may date some people on the discussion, but it should be interesting to see. My cell phone history is this: Starting in 2004 Motorola T720 (1 year) Nokia 6101 (1 year) Sony Ericsson K790a (3 years) Sony Ericsson X10 and BlackBerry Bold 9700 (16 months of dual phones) BlackBerry Pearl 3G 9100 (1 month before unfortunate water damage) Sony Ericsson X10 (for another 5 months) BlackBerry 9790 (1.5 months and counting) My ...

Mobile World Congress 2012 starts in Barcelona on Monday, but we've already seen plenty of announcements and leaks regarding some of the phones (and tablets) expected to be shown off. Check out the list below for what we know about, let us know what you're excited about, and stay tuned to gdgt for the latest product releases! Acer
So I have one of the earlier versions of the MacBook Pro: 2.13 gig intel core duo 160 GB HD 3 GB RAM - I installed 2 more gigs I want to upgrade my hard drive, namely for more space and more speed. However, I have been researching some of the different drives and I am having trouble deciding what the best avenue is: SATA - Hitachi, Samsung, Toshiba? I have seen mixed reviews for Seagate and WD for Macs. or SSD - Crucial, Samsung, OWC, Intel? - I have seen good reviews for the first 3. I like the fact...

This is a bit old as it came out last week but HTC has said they are looking to make less devices to try and find that special device. Motorola has also said they are planning to do this. This just leaves Samsung as the only other major Android manufacture who goes overboard on Android releases. Overall do you think this is a smart move for not just HTC but handset manufactures in general? If you take Motorola over the past couple months they released the Razr, Razr MAXX and then the Razr...

The US Copyright Office in 2010, stated Jailbreaking iOS devices is legal. Now this exemption is running out. I would like to hear what you think about rooting or jailbreaking. I'm doing some research of my own and want any information, whether you oppose Jailbreaking/Rooting or you're in favor, I want to know. Please be as detailed as possible when replying, so that your comment is not misconstrued.
This is pretty big news for Google and hopefully one more step closer in providing a more unified UX/UI on Android. As it stands now when manufactures put out their phones they can force apps to use their customized skin. By requiring that they keep Holo intact on the phone this will allow for app developers to choose between the Holo theme or letting the skin take over when users launch their apps.
How do you feel about this and if you're an Android user are you excited for the change?
Will You Be Getting An Upgrade? It seems that most of Google's installed base is stuck on versions of Android more than a year old, and few will get updates on devices more than a year old, even if they are still under contract. "Blogger Michael Degusta revealed in October that 45 percent of Google's installed base of active Android users were stuck using software released in the middle of 2010. That's because handset makers like Samsung, HTC, Motorola and others do not make those updates...

I've just got the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. It's stunning! I'm surprised just how great is it (certainly compared to my old HTC Desire Z). The specs don't, though lie the S2 is the better phone but, for me, it looks butt ugly (too square I think). It also doesn't have ICS yet (though I'm sure it's only a matter of time). But is the S2 the best phone out there overall? The specs suggest so, it beats everything bar iPhone 4S's screen resolution from what I can see. It's a shame it's a little boxy....

As a loyal Zune Pass subscriber and a Zune 120 owner I was a little upset when Microsoft announced that they would no longer be producing Zune hardware. I understand why they are doing it they are way behind in the smartphone race, however I just don’t see why they would abandon music fans like this. No matter what you say until a Windows Phone 7 device has a battery that can last as long as a dedicated music player can those of us who listen to music a great deal and don’t want to be stuck...

judgement, but... ... do Samsung not have a single original thought in their collective heads? Right down to the ribbon-handled 'boutique' style bag that you get the notebook in, this is about as blatant a ripoff of the first-gen Air as it gets. Why would you, as a company with some degree of self-identity and a significant R&D spend, take cues from the (admittedly very successful, given the nature of most people) most 'style without substance' company out there? Bah humbug.
I realize that the Archos 14 Vision is of this form-factor. But I would very much prefer an Android-based OS. I don't need video. In fact I would prefer it not. Just want a solid, but tiny, Wifi device with a good OS. I might even consider an iPod Nano if it had iOS and wifi access.
My iPhone 4 needs to be replaced. I tried to accomplish the task with a Lumia 800, but as you can read in my review, it didn't go as hoped. Since I am a Telus employee/customer the contenders for my next device include: the HTC One S and the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. As I see it the strengths of the HTC are the camera and the build quality, but it falls short in the qHD PenTile display, and Sense 4 (even if it is greatly improved). The Galaxy Nexus has the 720p display, and stock Android. The build...

Specs-wise, it seems that the Galaxy SII is a much better deal; but every inch of me wants to go for the One S! I wanted to get more opinions on this, since I might be just too caught up with its beauty and the idea of it.
Hi, I have a Samsung 3D LED HDTV, model UE46C7705. It seems this is a very specific model number, probably tailored to terrestrial transmission in my locale. How do I "translate" this number to a global "version" close enough for forums and support questions? For example I can't find that model in the gdgt database.
My friend has a 32" Samsung HDTV, and Apple TV and an Airport Express for networking. She wants to be able to AirPlay audio to the home stereo as well as pipe audio from the HDTV and the Apple TV to the stereo system as well. She also has a DVD player that I guess could either be routed through the HDTV or put directly in the stereo.
Something high quality (with a subwoofer most likely) and reasonably priced. Not sure if 5.1 is needed. Probably just a 2.1 would be best. Any recommendations GDGT?
Almost five years ago, Jeff Atwood wrote "Where Are The High Resolution Displays?": http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/2007/06/where-are-the-high-resolution-displays.html Brian Lam's The Wirecutter thinks that the best desktop display available now is the Dell Ultrasharp U2412M, which has just 94 PPI, less than my 13" MacBook Pro at 116 PPI. iOS retina displays have got me thinking: 1. What is the highest resolution (or best high PPI) desktop display available now? 2. Is any progress being made in...

I recently add a 16m mini sd card to this phone cause I was running short on space. Now f I try and add a new app I get a message that the system memory is running low. How can I extend the amount of system memory on this device and what are its limitations
I'm interested to see what the overall feeling is in 2012 in regards to this. I have been a simultaneous Android and Blackberry/WP7 user over the years and I always prided myself in my Android loyalty and scoffed at those who claimed the open-ness of Google's OS hampered the overall user experience. Last month I received my first iPhone and I think I'm starting to pull a 180. I believe at this point, especially after experiencing iOS firsthand, Google should really consider pulling in the reigns...

Looking to buy a new monitor (around 24") to use as an external for coding on my MacBook Air but I haven't really paid attention to them in a while. It looks like all the reasonably-priced ones on Newegg are 1920x1080. Is that pretty much the norm these days or should I look for something better? Also, recommendations would be appreciated.
I have AT&T with a grandfathered unlimited data plan but prefer Verizon's performance. I am using an iphone 3gs. Itunes frakked my music collection and I hate it. I need Exchange support, though we do have a BES in house. Security is the most important. Had a BB curve a couple of years ago it was SOOOooo Slow and I had to pull the battery so often, I installed the battery puller app.
I accidentally put a number on a blacklist I think, and now all incoming text messages from that number go silently to the SPAM folder. How can I make this number work normal again ?
I can't find how to remove it and don't even know how I added it there...
This is no android phone, it's a samsung proprietary OS and the phone has dual SIM.
I wanted to buy myself an iPhone, but then I saw the advert. of Samsung Galaxy Nexus on the tv and I started wondering wich phone is better? I know they are hardly comparable because of the different OS they are using. But wich of the phones would you prefer to have or already have?
