In the recent months there has been tons of speculation over who will manufacture the next Nexus device for Google. Rumours have been abound for many manufacturers, most recently LG, but others pertaining to HTC, Sony, Samsung, and even Motorola. Here is a brief rumour roundup with mockup photos of each LG Optimus G Nexus could be seen in November. (http://mobilesyrup.com/2012/10/04/lg-optimus-g-ne... Spec-wise similar to the...

Confession. Reading this engadget post/reveal made me downright giddy. http://www.engadget.com/2012/08/31/samsung-Series%209-WQHD-Ultrabook-matte-display/ With Samsung producing LCD panels for Apple, I have always wondered why they were not doing so for themselves. There have been many theories and answers as to why, but it still didn't sit right with me. I figured that if someone was to challenge Apple in the display department, it would most likely be them. Now I suppose I should say I have...

IFA Berlin, Europe's biggest Consumer Electronics event, takes place this week, and we've got info on all of the hot new products being launched. Not surprisingly, a lot of companies are showing off Windows 8 tablets and laptops, in preparation for Microsoft's October release of its next operating system. Giant 4K TVs are also in abundance, though with no real 4K programming available, they're largely a tease. Here's a list of some of the biggest launches, organized by company. Which of these...

As Sony did earlier today, Samsung used the IFA Berlin show to roll out massive array of new products. Some (the Galaxy Note II) were expected; some had already been introduced (the Galaxy Note 10.1), and some (Windows 8 laptops and desktops) expanded on themes that were in place at least since earlier this year. But Samsung still managed to provide some intrigue, with products like the Galaxy Camera, which boasts a 16.1 megapixel sensor, 21x zoom lens, Wi-Fi, and Android Jelly Bean. The launch...

The short question, as per the title- do you recycle your old gadgets? The long story: At the beginning of July, I found myself faced with an odd situation. I realized I had kept (read: hoarded) a bunch of my old cell phones. Each in a different state of disrepair, none of which I would consider properly working or repairable I knew it was time to let go. Now, I knew I wouldn't be able to pull any significant cash from them so I started to look into various routes of recycling. There are...

Patents that have been awarded to various tech companies are not bringing forth innovation, they are stiffing innovation. Manufactures are more concerned with getting ridiculous and vague patents that they use to sue another company instead of really creating something revolutionary. Software patents, like the ones that have been issued to Apple, Motorola, Samsung, and LG are entirely to vague. The patents are issued so late that by the time a patent is awarded to a company various devices are...

http://media.gdgt.com/img/products/457/9t9i/9t9i-640.jpg As expected, Samsung rolled out the Galaxy Note 10.1 at a media event in New York this morning. The 10.1-inch tablet boasts an enhanced stylus-based interface using Samsung's S-Pen stylus, handwriting recognition, desktop-style multitasking (or at least the closest thing to it you're likely to find on a tablet based on a mobile OS), and a fast quad-core processor. But it also has a display that, at 1280 x 800, may disappoint anyone hoping...

http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/08/note-event.jpg Samsung is going to announce a "brand new member of their Galaxy Family" at a major launch event tomorrow, and rumors are circulating about what the company will actually roll out. Engadget's teasing the event with the following: "Will we see the much-anticipated Galaxy Note 10.1? Given that Sammy already pulled the curtain on the global model, all signs point to yes." What do you think? Are the rumors right, or will Samsung...

According to a new study by Nielsen, two thirds of all new cellphone buyers are picking up smartphones instead of basic or feature models. Given that carriers are heavily subsidizing smartphones, with some now in the free tier, that may not be a big surprise. And smartphone market share is likely to keep going up. Back in February, according to Nielsen, smartphone and feature phone ownership levels crossed paths at 50%, with feature phones headed down, and smarties moving up....

There's a rash of Google vs Amazon and Apple vs Samsung stories on the net lately, and while fun spirited reads creatively done, they all ignore some basic facts: 1) Google isn't a hardware company. They make their money off of search and ads and their ecosystem. Sure, they can play around and make a few handsets or tablets through awesome partners (like Asus. Same company that makes Apple's motherboards). 2) Amazon is restricting access to the Play Store on their reskinned Gingerbread devices,...

The New York Times is reporting that Facebook is considering building its own smartphone -- for the third time. According to the article, the social network has hired away a bunch of Apple's iPhone and iPad developers, and sees developing its own phone as a top priority: “Mark [Zuckerberg] is worried that if he doesn’t create a mobile phone in the near future that Facebook will simply become an app on other mobile platforms,” a Facebook employee said. But would there be any reason to buy a...

There is no doubt that the Samsung Galaxy S III has an impressive spec sheet. Even though the phone doesn't bring much new to the table, it appears that it will be competing with HTC's One X for the throne atop the Android mountain. One part of Samsung's new device has me less than impressed though. The device is a totally plastic, wholly generic, typically Samsung design. In the age of One S, X, Lumia 900, and the iPhone 4S, the look and feel of the Galaxy S III is out of step. Build quality...

According to a new study, more than 70% of smartphone users spend almost nothing on apps, which means the remaining 30% are on the hook to keep the $20 billion app economy alive. As Engadget puts it: We know smartphone and tablet owners like to buy games. But if you go by a new ABI exploration of user habits, most of us aren't buying much of anything. More than 70 percent of the crowd spends little to nothing on mobile apps, dragging down the average of $14 spent per month among paying customers...

Okay, so I am looking to buy a camera for anywhere between $200-280. What do you guys think I should get? I was hoping to get something that could take really good pictures in the dark and when it was bright outside, something that could record in 1080p, something that could record audio very well along with video that had a good fps rate, something that had good zoom and megapixels and if ti had auto adjust that would be cool. Also if you guys could point out anything that is useful to have in...

Word is out today that Samsung plans to dramatically scale back production of point-and-shoots in favor of mirrorless interchangeable-lens compacts. While one company's move doesn't mean the whole industry is about to shift, sales of basic point-and-shoots have been on decline for a while, supplanted by smartphones on the low end, and by more sophisticated models -- including compact superzooms and ILCs -- on the high end. As Engadget puts it: Samsung's imaging chief Han Myoung-sup told the WSJ...

I am just curious as to the evolution of users' cell phones over time. I realize this may date some people on the discussion, but it should be interesting to see. My cell phone history is this: Starting in 2004 Motorola T720 (1 year) Nokia 6101 (1 year) Sony Ericsson K790a (3 years) Sony Ericsson X10 and BlackBerry Bold 9700 (16 months of dual phones) BlackBerry Pearl 3G 9100 (1 month before unfortunate water damage) Sony Ericsson X10 (for another 5 months) BlackBerry 9790 (1.5 months and counting) My ...

Mobile World Congress 2012 starts in Barcelona on Monday, but we've already seen plenty of announcements and leaks regarding some of the phones (and tablets) expected to be shown off. Check out the list below for what we know about, let us know what you're excited about, and stay tuned to gdgt for the latest product releases! Acer
So I have one of the earlier versions of the MacBook Pro: 2.13 gig intel core duo 160 GB HD 3 GB RAM - I installed 2 more gigs I want to upgrade my hard drive, namely for more space and more speed. However, I have been researching some of the different drives and I am having trouble deciding what the best avenue is: SATA - Hitachi, Samsung, Toshiba? I have seen mixed reviews for Seagate and WD for Macs. or SSD - Crucial, Samsung, OWC, Intel? - I have seen good reviews for the first 3. I like the fact...

Does anybody know which models are eligible for this device? The press release said select 2012 models. My fingers are crossed the un46es6100 is included.
Also, any word on pricing? One blog said they were aiming for the sub $500 range, and someone was guessing $200.
From my research, it looks like the international Galaxy Note II works on T-Mobile and AT&T's 3G networks, but not 4G. I'm having a hard time finding a definitive answer on this, so I'm just looking for some confirmation. I want to be able to switch the Note II from T-Mobile to AT&T if needed.
sir please suggest me that what mobile i have to buy in the price below of 16000 Rs in indian price. i mostly like the nokia 701.but the os ratings in your site is very low so please tell me best phone with high configurations
I'm planning on getting this "sleekbook" and though it's mainly going to be a media-consumption device, I plan to also use for some light weight gaming such as Left 4 Dead 2, DoTA 2, etc.
Do note, I'm not looking to play these games at high settings - though of course the ability to play at higher settings would be nicer.
How do you think it would fare, especially as compared to Ivy Bridge? Because I know the games I play are playable using I've Bridge.
Currently every single major smart phone is a black slab with a large touch screen. When will a company change that form factor and introduce or reintroduce a different form factor? Will we see smart phones with flip screens, similar to the original RAZR, or something new that is not a black slab?
Well, to be frank, I am not a professional photographer. I just want to buy a good camera to take photos. Since I would like to memorize every second of beauty and touching moment. Those could happen on my way to office, on my way back home, when hanging out with friends and family, whenever I come into a new place. LOL~ any suggestions? Thanks~~
Looking for a tv around $1200, 46", >=120hz, & LED. I've been looking at the Sony KDL46EX640 and Samsung UN46ES6100 and was wondering if people had other suggestions or recomendations.
I realize that the Archos 14 Vision is of this form-factor. But I would very much prefer an Android-based OS. I don't need video. In fact I would prefer it not. Just want a solid, but tiny, Wifi device with a good OS. I might even consider an iPod Nano if it had iOS and wifi access.
My iPhone 4 needs to be replaced. I tried to accomplish the task with a Lumia 800, but as you can read in my review, it didn't go as hoped. Since I am a Telus employee/customer the contenders for my next device include: the HTC One S and the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. As I see it the strengths of the HTC are the camera and the build quality, but it falls short in the qHD PenTile display, and Sense 4 (even if it is greatly improved). The Galaxy Nexus has the 720p display, and stock Android. The build...

Specs-wise, it seems that the Galaxy SII is a much better deal; but every inch of me wants to go for the One S! I wanted to get more opinions on this, since I might be just too caught up with its beauty and the idea of it.
Hi, I have a Samsung 3D LED HDTV, model UE46C7705. It seems this is a very specific model number, probably tailored to terrestrial transmission in my locale. How do I "translate" this number to a global "version" close enough for forums and support questions? For example I can't find that model in the gdgt database.
My friend has a 32" Samsung HDTV, and Apple TV and an Airport Express for networking. She wants to be able to AirPlay audio to the home stereo as well as pipe audio from the HDTV and the Apple TV to the stereo system as well. She also has a DVD player that I guess could either be routed through the HDTV or put directly in the stereo.
Something high quality (with a subwoofer most likely) and reasonably priced. Not sure if 5.1 is needed. Probably just a 2.1 would be best. Any recommendations GDGT?
Almost five years ago, Jeff Atwood wrote "Where Are The High Resolution Displays?": http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/2007/06/where-are-the-high-resolution-displays.html Brian Lam's The Wirecutter thinks that the best desktop display available now is the Dell Ultrasharp U2412M, which has just 94 PPI, less than my 13" MacBook Pro at 116 PPI. iOS retina displays have got me thinking: 1. What is the highest resolution (or best high PPI) desktop display available now? 2. Is any progress being made in...

I recently add a 16m mini sd card to this phone cause I was running short on space. Now f I try and add a new app I get a message that the system memory is running low. How can I extend the amount of system memory on this device and what are its limitations
I'm interested to see what the overall feeling is in 2012 in regards to this. I have been a simultaneous Android and Blackberry/WP7 user over the years and I always prided myself in my Android loyalty and scoffed at those who claimed the open-ness of Google's OS hampered the overall user experience. Last month I received my first iPhone and I think I'm starting to pull a 180. I believe at this point, especially after experiencing iOS firsthand, Google should really consider pulling in the reigns...
