Conclusion: We like it

Priced at $250, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 is just $50 more than the Nook Tablet and Kindle Fire. Unlike those tablets, the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 runs the latest version of Android, has full access to the Google Play Store, and includes features like GPS, front and rear-facing cameras, and a universal remote that works with most TVs and cable boxes. While it doesn't have access to Amazon's video-on-demand app, and its display isn't as sharp as those on more expensive models, If you're looking for something smaller than the iPad, but less limited than the Kindle Fire or Nook Tablet — and don't want to spend $300 or more — the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 is worth a look.

Despite its reliable performance, it seems to us that Samsung didn't do enough to effectively overpower the allure of the Kindle Fire's tidy ecosystem ... All that said, you'll be hard-pressed to find a better ICS tablet at this price.

At $50 more than the Kindle Fire, the Tab 2.0 offers a more feature-rich, flexible tablet experience ... users looking for the best Android ICS experience in a small screen tablet right now, look no further than the Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0).

This inexpensive, full-featured Android 4.0 tablet is neither the best performer nor the prettiest option; but it does well as a point of entry for tablet shoppers who feel comfortable without the training wheels of the value-priced tablets from Amazon or Barnes & Noble.

The problem is that it seems like a sideways step -- or in some ways, a backwards one -- from the 7-in. tablets Samsung already has available. And by simply recycling and remixing an existing concept, Samsung has doomed the product to be quickly outpaced.

This tablet is made to be inexpensive enough for anyone to afford while it keeps many of the features and elements that make a Samsung tablet experience one to look forward to. And best of all, the price on this beast is one to look forward to.

If you don’t [have Amazon Prime], I personally think the fact that the 7-inch Galaxy Tab 2 ships with Ice Cream Sandwich — on top of all of its other features — makes it an excellent buy for an extra $50.

Consumers gravitate to the Kindle Fire because it’s incredibly intuitive and puts books, music, videos and games right at their fingertips. You don’t get that with the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 — it’s a device for Android fans.

With a price just $50 above that of the Kindle Fire and Nook Tablet, most reviews compare the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 to those devices. And as an alternative to those models, it acquits itself well, especially when compared with the Fire, which doesn't offer any options for expanded storage, and limits...

Incredible tablet, great value. TouchWiz drives me crazy though. My Google Nexus is what it should be, not a cobbled up ICS interface with a lot of bloatware. WiFi tends to be hit or miss at times while the Nexus is fine on the same network.
