Why U.S. Galaxy S Phones still run Android 2.1.
details
I came across this interesting forum post on xda-developers.com explaining why the Galaxy S phones are still running 2.1. Turns out it's not a technical issue, primarily a political issue. According to the poster, there are different types of updates for phones -- the update to 2.2 is considered a feature update by Samsung in which they will then charge the carriers for. Simply put, the carriers don't want to pay for updates that are free from other manufacturers like HTC or Motorola,... Read more →

Anyone else having this issue with their Vibrant?
details
When I turn on bluetooth and such, then try to use GPS, the music player insists on trying to play something - anything. Go back "home" and try again - same problem. After about 3 attempts, GPS starts working - kinda. Most times, GPS is searching for a signal, AND before I reach my destination, it seems to brick itself. I have to pop the battery out to reset the darn thing. GPS on, Bluetooth on, Wi-Fi on (read somewhere, turning on Wi-Fi helps the GPS act more gooder). :o/

Share your custom Android design!
details
The best thing about having an Android phone is that you can create your own custom phone experience. Here are some screenshots of mine: http://android.musketeer.mm.st/ I'm using an Australian Samsung Galaxy S running the stock Optus firmware and Launcher Pro Plus with Beautiful Widgets. This lets me pinch to zoom out to thumbnails of my 7 home screens, then tap to jump directly to any of them. Essentially it has let me build build my own custom version of something like HTC's Sense UI... Read more →

The iPhone 4 was my first smartphone.
details
While it was nice, by the time I got it, I already wanted to switch to Android to support the more open-source, free market alternative. After a few weeks of battling Apple's restrictions on a gadget that I already bought and own, I decided to jump ship and switch to the Captivate (the AT&T Galaxy S phone). So far, I love it. Compared with the iPhone, the interface isn't quite as crisp or polished, but it makes up for that in sheer customization potential. Plus, I don't feel...

I have the Galaxy S/Captivate. Aside from lacking a flash for the camera, I love it.

Not being able to side load apps from the SD would have been an issue were it not for the Side Load Wonder Machine from Android Central. The one thing that gets me the most about this phone is that there is no missed call/message alert that is visible when the phone is in sleep mode; if you do not wake the phone up, then you have no way of knowing that something was missed. I'd hate for a friend or a family member to be in need of help and I not know that they called. There is a work around...

I never messed around with this phone until the gdgt event in Seattle. Compared to the mytouch 3g without the 3.5mm that I'm still sadly using...

it's significantly faster. love using pinch to zoom. 7 screens instead of the 3 that i'm used to. much needed internal memory. a2dp. lots of new features in the 2.1 ota update that my 1.6 doesn't have. the oled screen just pops in color. comes with the movie avatar and that movie looks so nice on the phone. :)

Alright fellows. I've owned every iPhone since the second generation. I just had to return my iPhone 4 because of some hardware issues.
details
My wife, brother, and dad all have iPhone 4's with no issues. However I'm thinking of jumping ship to android out of nothing else but curiosity. I'm an AT&T man so it's either a new iPhone 4 or the samsung captivate. Could you android fans out there offer some perspective? Thanks.

I am willing to bet that Samsung will upgrade all these phones to 2.2 but I doubt they will ever upgrade to Gingerbread. The Moment stopped at 2.
details
1 with one major upgrade, they haven't mentioned the Spica getting an update, the behold 2 got one measly upgrade to 1.6 almost a year after it came out. And the original Galaxy was always stuck at 1.5. To me it seems like Samsung is treating their android lineup like their feature phones, maybe one update and then just deal with it or upgrade to another phone that they put out. At least HTC is trying hard to keep all their phones upgraded, aside from the G1 which just couldn't handle...
