Windows 8 and the Myth of the All-Purpose Device
details
With the release of Windows 8 and its ecosystem of hardware near at hand, I have been thinking about the ancient (in technology years) myth of the all-purpose device. This myth is one every geek knows and dreams of. The idea of having a single device that you carry around that can meet all of the technology needs you have is one that has captured the imagination since the days of the first "portable" computers. For geeks everywhere, though, it is ultimately a dream that leaves us depressed and... Read more →

Disparity Between Critic Reviews and Consumer Opinion
details
As can be seen at a glance on gdgt, there is a huge gap between what critics have said, (are saying) about this phone and what regular consumers are saying. Many critics who have attempted to predict the doom and failure of this phone have had to eat their words. Apparently there is a market for this so called “phablet” for those who do not want a tablet AND a Smartphone. I am wondering why the critics were so off the mark with this gadget.

Most smartphone users want larger screens
details
According to a new survey, most smartphone users want larger screens; the 4-to-4.5-inch range is apparently the sweet spot. As the former owner of both a 3.5-inch iPhone and 5-inch Dell Streak, and the current owner of a 4.5-inch Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket, I'd say that sounds about right. I found the iPhone's display too small for texting, reading or watching videos (though it was fine for Angry Birds). The Dell Streak, at the time the largest smartphone in existence, was great for all of... Read more →

Note on how to use the stylus
details
The Note uses a Wacom Stylus, and any wacom pc stylus will work with the note. (not the tablet ones though)
That means the following:
1) The point it draws is 1mm left or right of the stylus tip. This is so you can see what you are doing. THe settings lets you choose which hand you are using to draw
2) Correct drawing angle is like using a pen - around 20 to 45 degrees.
One of the reviews, which I can't reply to, implies you are supposed to draw at a 90 degree angle. That is incorrect and you are...

Samsung has "no plans" to bring the Galaxy Tab 7.7 and Galaxy Note to the US
details
This is disappointing news for those who were interested in checking out Samsung's latest tablets. A representative told the folks at GottaBeMobile that neither would be coming to the U.S. Were you planning on either getting one or checking one out? Mammoth Phone (reminds me of a Dell Streak 5)
details
Now that Samsung has announced this phone, is anyone interested in it? It's 5.3" . I used a Dell Streak 5 for about a year. I *loved* it for it's size, but it got EOL from Dell, and I think the reason that people didn't buy it was because they thought it was too large at 5".

Thoughts?

Mike.
