Conclusion: We're mixed

The Focus S boasts Samsung's 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus display and an 8MP camera. But the lack of a microSD slot, reported build-quality issues and the limited app ecosystem of the Windows Phone 7 platform, put this one just behind other high-end smartphones.

At $200 on a two-year contract we expect a high-end experience that matches the high-end price and the Focus S simply doesn't deliver that.

Any way you look at it, the Focus S, with its clean, attractive, powerful minimalism, is easy to use and lets Windows Phone shine. There are few overt flaws, and the device brings Microsoft's mobile platform the closest it's ever been to being in direct competition with Android and iOS superphones.

The Samsung Focus S is the closest Microsoft has ever come to hitting high-end, at least since Windows Phone 7 first hit the market late last year...but it costs too much, as it's still several leagues behind top-end Android devices.

The Focus S gives Windows Phone users a big screen alternative without feeling uncomfortable. It's really difficult to find anything too critical with the Focus S.

It seems hard to find a better player than the Samsung Focus S in the US Windows Phone game at the moment. The device’s hardware is as good as it gets for the platform, but its main selling point is certainly the Super AMOLED Plus screen.

The 4.3-inch screen is absolutely gorgeous, the speed increase is extremely welcome in the processor intensive games, and the camera works very nicely. The excellent battery life is sure to make your Android and iPhone friends jealous as well.

I've owned every iPhone up to now. I decided to skip out on the 4S and go for a Windows Phone because it's really interested me since I first saw it back when it was announced. While it's going to take some getting used to simply because it's different, I'm really impressed with Windows Phone...

The phone deserves and 8 but in my use never felt like an 8. It's good across the board and great here and there.

Best phone I have had thus far. The WP platform is growing faster than anyone gives credit to. Metro Ui is the future and its nice. Like a fine wine, WP will get better in time.
