  • Reception and call quality I rarely get dropped calls, but clarity can be an issue. so-so
  • Display Bright and crisp. Particularly like how blacks are displayed. Screen size hits the sweet spot for me. good
  • Battery life With proper regulation of radios, you can extend the life of the battery. However, regular use makes battery use not optimal. so-so

  • Ease of use Hard to gauge. I consider myself fairly tech savvy, and I find it very user friendly. I'm not sure how it will work for less tech savvy folks. good
  • Design and form factor Because it has a physical keyboard it is bulkier than other Galaxy models. I guess it is nice to have the option, though I never use it. so-so
  • Portability (size / weight) For a 4" screen device, it is adequate. good
  • Media support I really like the ability to drag and drop files unto the device, and to have many apps to choose from to play various file formats. good
  • Durability The phone is light and a bit "plastic-y." Does not feel as durable as devices from other brands, such as apple. so-so
  • Ecosystem (apps, accessories, etc.) Though not as broad as the Apple ecosystem, it meets my needs. good
Detailed review
The Samsung Galaxy S Epic 4G was the Samsung flagship device on Sprint before the introduction of the Galaxy S 4G. Although it is not the top of the line model anymore, it is still a very good phone and it can be customized to give much of the same user experience as the Galaxy S.

It can sometimes be a bit buggy, and may require a restart from time to time to deal with issues such as the GPS not working or the Wifi radio not connecting. It also takes a good 3-5 minutes to fully boot from a cold start.

The physical keyboard seems extraneous, especially with the inclusion of Swype, but it is there for people who want that option. As far as the user interface, I am not a big fan of Touch Wiz, Samsung's launcher software. Thankfully you have the choice to try other launchers available on the market, so I have been able to customize the phone to meet my needs.

OS updates have been an issue due to Samsung's customization. Although I am overall happy with the device, in the future I will upgrade to a device with a stock android experience, since this has been a frustrating aspect.
