I gave this phone away to my daughter, then I swear it got two awesome updates within a couple months and now the phone has to be The Best Gingerbread phone I've seen. I miss it sometimes.

Why U.S. Galaxy S Phones still run Android 2.1.
I came across this interesting forum post on xda-developers.com explaining why the Galaxy S phones are still running 2.1. Turns out it's not a technical issue, primarily a political issue. According to the poster, there are different types of updates for phones -- the update to 2.2 is considered a feature update by Samsung in which they will then charge the carriers for. Simply put, the carriers don't want to pay for updates that are free from other manufacturers like HTC or Motorola,...

the specs say it is an oled... but it is an AMOLED... yes still an oled but not as bright. change this please, thanks!
oh and I am still waiting on a category for wrist mounted devices such as smart watches ipod Nanos and sony liveview.. when will that be available?

It's nice to see each one of these devices get its own product page as the term Galaxy S is actually used to describe the whole family.
Each device is different in its own respect and hardware is actually quite different despite near identical internals.
Excellent phone. Very few complaints.
Battery life is not great - but on par with similar phones Stupid emoticon button should be @ instead FN too close to SHIFT key. That's about it. I haven't been this happy with a phone since the Treo 600.

I came from the Nexus One with Android 2.2 on T-Mobile.
The Good: Super AMOLED produces a very crisp super saturated image and is easier to see in outdoor conditions. Good keyboard. Materials feels high quality. The Not So Good: To me the Epic 4G was disappointing due to Android 2.1. Slider mechanism. Button lights. TouchWiz. Four inch screen is not big enough. Samsung has not committed to a release date for Android 2.2 Froyo. Slider does not click in fully open or close position. Bad decision to timeout button lighting. I experienced less stability...

Start with an HTC Apache a buncha years back...Windows Mobile was cute, and it tried, but always failed.
Went from that to a RAZR until I finally got an HTC Dash...again, Windows Mobile, but loved the form factor! From that to a Blackberry 8330, which was depressing...too complicated to setup BES, too limited in every area. Only thing it was good at is it's notifications. But now with the Epic 4G and Android it's all different now. I can see how people see these powerful devices as the future...

Did anyone get their Epic 4G?
I'm thinking about upgrading once my current contract is up in November and I would love to hear some reviews from fellow gdgt users.

Why the heck does it cost 50 bucks more than all the other top-tier Android phones?
The more ridiculous thing is that Sprint claims this price is after a $150 instant rebate and a $100 mail-in rebate! Would some idiot really pay more for this device rather than, say, an iPhone 4 or an EVO 4G? Well, that's not my decision to make but that of the Sprint customer who purchases this phone.

According to Gizmodo, the Samsung Epic 4G on Sprint is dropping on August 31st... but the article cites no sources.
I'm not a big fan of unsubstantiated rumors masquerading as gospel, so can we find something official on this? http://gizmodo.com/5610833/sprint-epic-4g-android-...

I am willing to bet that Samsung will upgrade all these phones to 2.2 but I doubt they will ever upgrade to Gingerbread. The Moment stopped at 2.
1 with one major upgrade, they haven't mentioned the Spica getting an update, the behold 2 got one measly upgrade to 1.6 almost a year after it came out. And the original Galaxy was always stuck at 1.5. To me it seems like Samsung is treating their android lineup like their feature phones, maybe one update and then just deal with it or upgrade to another phone that they put out. At least HTC is trying hard to keep all their phones upgraded, aside from the G1 which just couldn't handle...
