Chromebooks will always be polarizing, but at $249 the price is far more appropriate than it had been. We recommend it for schools and people looking for a cheap second laptop.

Samsung's latest Chromebook, like its predecessors, is a limited laptop that relies on Google's cloud-based apps for almost all of its functionality; it's more of a browser-based internet appliance than a fully featured computer. However, it's very light, has a good keyboard and display, is outfitted with a solid set of ports, including USB 3.0 and HDMI, and at $249, it's cheaper than just about all other laptops and many tablets. It's unlikely that the Chromebook will ever be your primary computer, but if you're looking for a lightweight laptop for lightweight work, it's a good choice.
