It's a known issue, the battery pack bulging and pressing against the HDD. So anyone ever managed to replace the battery pack?

I really loved this thing, with a passion. I still think it has a timeless beauty to it and a very enjoyable, if not beautifully simple, interface. The red glow, the lack of fingerprints it attracted. I just loved it. Until I finally gave into the world of Apple, this was my first plunge into the market, and I loved it. I gave it to a good friend who still enjoys it to this day. I saw it the other night. I held it and immediately remembered why I loved it so much. Great, great product.

This thing brings back memories. One of the first few MP3 players that actually was fairly stable and easy to use. It would've been the perfect player if it displayed file names. I remember pulling this thing out back in '98 and people thought it was a mini-disc player!

I just saw a topic about Rio PMP300 that brought back memories of my first MP3 player. The Diamond Rio 500 had USB 1.0, expandable SD card slot and 32MB of built in memory. Not to mention a sexy blue backlight and a firmware update that packed an impressive amount of detail on a relatively tiny screen. I miss those simple days when there was no iTunes, no iPods. It was just my dial-up connection, Napster and some praying to make sure my songs got downloaded. ;)

Look, in terms of build quality this thing was kind of a piece of garbage. And I don't know about you, but my Karma's drive kept dying. But damned if this isn't my favorite standalone portable audio player of all time. RIP Karma.
