Worth Upgrading?

I have had this computer for over two and a half years now, running Windows 7, 6GBs of RAM, a 500GB HDD. Are these specs still current, this laptop is heavy as hell and I'm in the market to move to something lighter, faster and with a solid state hard drive.

You might consider upgrading to an SSD drive now with your current system. You may be able to move it forward depending on what system you replace it with, or you could continue to use your existing system as a backup. Your current system's specs are not lacking, and I think it makes sense to wait for Ivy Bridge based laptops.

Those specs don't seem terribly out of date; but the real question is what limitations are you banging your head against? Why not wait for Windows 8 and/or the ultrabooks demoed at CES to show?
