Won't sync properly

Playing with the new Zune HD and having an odd problem: I can connect it just fine, but it isn't syncing properly. For example, if I try and sync an album it will only sync a handful of tracks. If I try and sync a group of albums some albums will sync and others won't (with some tracks missing from each album).

Anyone else experience this problem?

I had this problem early this morning, but I think it was due to the Marketplace not being "fully" up from the downtime last night. I got errors when trying to play a lot of my Zune Pass content. The error information mentioned it might happen when the Marketplace is down or you're not signed in.

I'm syncing tracks from my own collection, not from Zune Marketplace.

Ah. In that case I'm not sure. A quick pass over the Zune forums shows that a lot of people are having sync issues after the 4.0 update. I won't be able to do any more testing with it for a few hours, but so far I haven't seen a sure-fire solution

Figured it out! It was trying to auto-sync a podcast that wasn't in my collection any more, rather than just skip over it (or just let me know this) this was basically crashing the sync process. So odd.

UPDATE: Spoke too soon, the problem is back again. I have no clue what's causing it.

You have to give it to me to try ;) But in all seriousness, I hope someone figures this out.

I have gotten mine to sync my collection, both wired and wireless sync have worked save for trying to by an app from the marketplace wirelessly.

Sounds like a bad hard drive.
I had two Zune 80's that would sync like that.

Call zune or (less waste of time)return.

Also, depending on the place you bought it, you might want to try exchanging it for another. Sorry to hear about the problems. I'm synching fine here. Got several hundred songs, a few audio podcasts and the free downloads of The Guild in HD on my Zune HD just fine.

I have a small question: How long does it typically take in order to sync? Last night it took over an hour just to sync up 500MB of music.

Have you tried doing a complete restore? Obviously this is a pain but it has helped my iPod Touch at least twice.

I had that same problem. All i had to do was remove the songs from my collection and then go into settings and restore the previously removed media. that worked for me and now all media is on my Zune.

I haven't had any problems with my ZHD32. I would just return it. If it persists with a new zune, then its prob your computer or a bad install of 4.0

This advice might be a bit late for some, but I just got my Zune HD today and had the same problem... here is what I did:

1. Wipe all the files off the Zune
(settings -- device -- player options -- erase all content)

2. Go into Settings, then Software, then under the Monitored Folders -- Music section, remove all of the monitored folders (you can do this for the videos, pictures, etc. too if you need to). Make sure you tell it to "remove the folder and remove its content from my collection." Press okay, press okay in the settings menu, and it should go back to your collection screen and tell you that you have no files in your collection.

3. Exit the software.

4. Go to the folder where you keep your music files. For me, it was in My Music / Zune. I re-named the "Zune" folder to "Artists." just re-name the folder where you keep your music. If you keep it right in the My Music folder then maybe you want to move your whole collection into its own folder within the My Music folder.

5. Open up the software again, go into the software settings, and tell it to start monitoring the folder you just re-named. Your collection should begin to load up into the software again.

6. Hook up your Zune again, and it should sync your music properly! I am doing a manual sync of music I choose right now and it hasn't given me any errors, and it is syncing everything I told it to (except for a couple renegades that I apparently don't have rights to... pfff).

I'm not entirely sure why I was having this problem... I think it was partly because I used to access my music off a portable hard drive, and later I moved it onto my computer's hard drive. But the Zune software (even though I told it to STOP monitoring the hard drive music folder) kept thinking there were duplicates of songs floating around and I guess that made it freak out. A lot of my music just would NOT sync no matter what I did. But this has worked really well and everything finally seems to be working again.
