with os x lion, my mbp goes black on closing the lid but never goes to sleep nor does it come alive. Any solutions?

I just installed the new mac os X lion on my 2006 c2d macbook pro to a second partition on my second HDD (replaced the superdrive with a second hdd) to give it a try before deciding if it can replace my snow leopard which seems to work just fine so far.
While it installed fine and works well for the most part (tho I miss the multitouch trackpad), as soon as I close the lid, the screen goes black just like it would on snow leopard before going to sleep, but the fans and drive keep spinning even after 10 mins, and the worst part, when I open the lid, the screen is still black no matter what I do. I tried hitting all the keyboard buttons and combination of buttons, trackpad button and nothing seems to help, except restarting it by holding down the power :(

I tried repairing permissions with no avail. Hope someone has a solution for this.

I was able to fix it....
the problem in my case must be something with the pata/sata caddy I used to install the second HDD in place of the superdrive... when I installed lion (DP4 and final) to the second HDD it exhibited this problem, so I decided to make another partition on my primary drive and it works fine so far.
