Question about
With my 3rd-gen iPod touch I always used my Apple Headphones with Remote and Mic to adjust the volume of music. This is no longer working on the 4th-Gen.
Try powering down the iPod touch and restarting. This has happened to my son before. If that doesn't work, it may be time to get new headphones.

Take it into an Apple store, Apple will fix it, I guarantee it. They'll probably give you new headphones if turning it off and on again or changing some settings doesn't fix it.
