Windows Explorer Crashing, Please Help!

I am currently using windows 7 SP1 and whenever I right click on anything in windows explorer, this means, the desktop, start menu, and folder windows, windows explorer will crash. I tried to run sfc.exe /scannow but can not because I need Administrator privelages, and while I am the administrator, I can not right click it to access these privileges. I have done virus scans, safe mode boots, everything. Even in safe mode this problem still occours. Also, a clean instal is not an option. Anyone have any way I can repair my systems files. without the need for command prompt, or a way to elevate command prompt without right clicking?

You probably have a drive with bad blocks. You need to head over to grc.com and buy a copy of SpinRite to see if that can salvage it. If it does, you need to clone that drive to a new one ASAP.

Win key + r will give you an elevated run dialog, which is what you are looking for. You could also try psexec. I agree with the other responder, assume your hard drive is dying. I disagree with spin rite being the first step. You should backup whatever you can first with a Linux live cd, then run memtest, then spinrite

I had this problem a while ago. The Windows Explorer kept crashing constantly on my PC. But, one trick did the job. Uninstall 'Quicktime' and 'Bonjour' from your PC. Everything will be back to normal. Try it and let me know if it worked. Good luck.

Sorry for the really late reply, but I just re installed Windows 7. Fixed everything, of course.
