Windows 7 on the EPC 900

I am having trouble with my EEE PC due to the limited storage on the SSD. There are two SSD's inside one with 4GB and one with 8GB. The smaller one is used as the main drive but is running seriously low on space making everything run slow and not even allowing updates to be installed. The only program installed at present is XP and it's updates. All the other programs I have installed on the larger drive.
Now with windows 7, everyone is saying that this is a great operating system for a netbook but with only 4GB to play with I don't know if it will even work.
Can I get the thing to boot from the larger drive. This should solve my problem as I store very little on the PC and USB sticks are very cheap these days.
Another problem is that the XP serial number is on the base but I do not have a disc to reinstall from. I would love to do a clean install of XP (from either drive) but don't know how to solve the disc problem.

With that little space I would advise against installing Windows 7 on the system. But, in terms of your Windows XP issue there are a few things you can do.
1) Download and install Ubuntu Netbook Remix instead of Windows.
It's a brilliant little OS that is designed around netbooks, it is great if you don't need to use Windows programs.
2) Download Windows XP or use a Windows XP disk you have lying around and create a USB XP installer disk using the excellent Win2Flash utility, and during the install, just use the key on the bottom of the unit.

Thank you. I had given up on a response.
I have downloaded xp from bit torrent and will try win2xp.
Do you know if I can make the second 8gb drive the primary and install xp on that instead of the original 4gb drive?

I've got EEE PC 901 since 3 years and it works very well with nlited winxp home. The intalled size is less than 1 GB. After installing Office 2003 (only Word and Excel), VS 6.0 and many other useful little programs the windows folder emerged to 1.5 GB. There are still 800 MB free. The updates are stopped.

So first stop windows updates when you have so little HDD. Second use nLite to strip your windows intallation. Set page file to 0 MB. Paging reduces the write cycles of the SSD very fast and takes place. Don't intall programs and part of programs that you don't use. Use Opera for web browser, remove IE from the installation. You can find a lot of tutorials on the web how to do all this.
