Question about
Will the Galaxy Nexus on VZW be worth the contract price or should I try Republic Wireless and get stuck with a LG Optimus One
I am currently on VZW with my wife and we both have smartphones with data plans grandfathered in as unlimited. Combined we pay $175 a month and it's as pared down as we can get it. I am intrigued by Republic Wireless but I don't think I could go from the Droid X2 I have now (I want the Galaxy Nexus) down to the LG Optimus One *shudders*

It really comes down to use. If you think you wont exceed the limits that Republic Wireless has put out there for being their threshold it may be worth it then. If you do decide to jump you could always wait and give the service time to see how it compares to other services and if more phones come along.

Well, instead of recommitting yourself to a contract, you could buy the phone carrier unlocked for ~$600-700 depending on where you order it from. However, if you're planning on sticking with Verizon, then renewing your contract shouldn't be a problem unless you really don't like paying $175. In my opinion, Republic Wireless is kind of a sham because they have "fair use" caps that are really low, and the Optimus One is just... not good.

As an update, the initial Republic Wireless fair use policy (with suggestions, not caps) is being completely removed and they are starting from scratch:

I'm in the beta (had to jump ship from AT&T even though I love my iPhone) and can tell RW really wants to start a revolution with this since they appear to be listening to their customers, unlike the big carriers. Unless you really NEED the latest, greatest (paying for premium as well), and have no consistent Wi-Fi access, RW is definitely a great deal. They will introduce new phones soon with time anyway...
