Question about
why is my laptop freezing after a few minutes running?
Your laptop is a little on the older side, so the freezing might have something to do with that. If you haven't already, try maxing out the ram.
The only other thing I can think of is pay attention to how hot you laptop gets. I have a Dell Latitude that I need to keep lifted off the table so that air can flow underneath it in order to avoid overheating. If I don't, the computer runs really slow and eventually just locks up completely.

We'd need more specifics to offer help, since it can be any number of reasons why your laptop freezes. When exactly does it freeze? What OS do you have on it? Does it get hot when running? Is your battery holding a full charge? Are your fans running? If they are, is your laptop still running hot?

Some suggestions that you might want to try:
1.) you can run a test on the computer outside windows: while the computer is off, press and hold fn key then power button, it should run the pre-boot diags, It will run a short test for your computer including hard disk and memory, you would be surprise that at times its a broken hdard drive or memory causes this issue.
2.) i would agree, overheating could be one of the factors.
3.) Could be infected with a virus. try running different tools like malwarebytes.
4.) could be an issue with the OS, try running it in safe mode and see if you have the same issues.. you might need to clean the OS itself.
