Why is my iPhone 3G battery draining so fast?

The iPhone 3G is about three years old at this point. With a lot of sustained use, it's not surprising that the battery might not hold a charge for very long. The iPhone's battery is rated at something like 400 charge cycles -- it's not unreasonable to think you might have used it that much in the past three years.
