Question about
Why can't I use MMS with Cellular Data turned off on my 3GS with iOS4.0?
When I turn off Cellular Data in the new 4.0 networks settings I can not send or receive MMS's. I am pretty sure people with "other" phones and messaging plans can send picture and video messages even though they don't have a data plan.
MMS requires a data connection (Edge or 3G). Non-smartphones are usually connected via Edge.

Yeah, you need to have some sort of data connection. Even with my old dumbphone, I had a 3G connection that was pretty quick to send SMS, MMS, etc.
I guess if you really wanted to have cellular data turned off completely you could always send messages via Google Voice. If you're just trying to save some battery, only turn of 3G but leave Edge on.
