Which OS update are you most looking forward to?

Over the coming months, we will be seeing some of the most anticipated updates to the major mobile operating systems that we've seen in awhile. Of course I'm talking about Windows Phone 7 Mango (7.5), Android Ice Cream Sandwich, and iOS 5.

What I want to know though, is which one you personally most anticipated for and why?

Personally, I'm looking forward to iOS 5 the most, or more specially, the iPhone 5. I am really excited to see what Apple introduces this year. Mango would be my #2 but Microsoft (and it's partners) have failed thus far to produce hardware that impresses me (with the one exception of the HTC 7 Pro, which is freaking amazing btw). I like Android, but lately it's just looked too cluttered for my tastes, although I have to admit that Android has a ridiculous amount of impressive devices.

What about you?

Even though I'm exclusively an Android user (the only Android phones I've used are Nexus One and S), I can't say that I'm really looking forward to ICS. More specifically, I'm not going to put any high hopes on it. Over and over again, Google stressed how Gingerbread was going to revolutionize everything but all it did was make Android more black and green. I just read a recent article (thisismynext.com/2011/09/09/android-jelly-bean/) on Thisismynext that Jelly Bean will get the "game changing" things that couldn't make it on ICS. At this point, I'm not going to expect anything too great just to prevent myself from being greatly dissapointed.

Now to actually answer your question, I'm really interested in how Mango might change things up for WP7. I'm really excited to see what's going to happen to WP7 this Fall and hopefully it'll grow and gain marketshare and even mindshare.

You never know, if WP7 really ends up being very successful and, if Windows 8 is pulled off well and is also a success, I might just switch from Android and get a WP7 phone to have unified experience between phone and computer.

I'm looking forward to iOS 5 the most because it's my primary OS, but I am very much looking forward to seeing what Ice Cream Sandwich has to offer. I'm also hoping to see what "Windows Phone 8" brings to the table.

I'm probably the most excited, hardware wise, to see what the design of the iPhone 5 is, and to see what the Nexus Prime looks like.

For my personal use, ICS. To be honest, though, I am not exactly excited about it, just curious. I was perfectly happy with 1.6, 2.1, 2.2, and now 2.3. The only thing that makes 2.2+ a must-have for me is support for the Navigation app, which is simply amazing. If it weren't for minimum OS version requirements on some apps, I'd still be happy with 1.6. I don't like the Honeycomb interface that I have seen on Android tablets, so I hope ICS fixes the UI.

In general, I most look forward to iOS5, but not because I really care... I don't even own or plan to own a device that will run it. However, nothing gets my blood pressure boiling faster than when an iPhone user comes to me wanting me to get their iPhone syncing with a new computer only to discover they have never synced it with a computer in the first place. This, of course, equates to hours and hours of my life wasted trying to get all the stuff off the iPhone and onto the computer before connecting the iPhone and letting the iTunes nuke it for the first sync. I am hoping that iOS5 + iCloud means I will never get such a request from another person EVER. The need for a computer master was what drove me away from iOS in the first place. And, before you ask, no, I will not be going back to iOS after this stumbling block is removed. I am quite happy in my Android universe.

Like others, despite being an Android user I'm not really crazy about ICS. From the leaked screen shots it's not looking like a UI overhaul just some minor additions. The move to break away from using soft buttons is something I'm not crazy about either. I know that it can potentially allow for larger screen sizes but those soft buttons are very useful. Having used Honeycomb on a tablet I actually found the persistent buttons to be a little excessive and confusing. I just don't see how they will be able to work them into the OS without taking away from other UI elements.

I'm excited for Mango because I think it will help WP7 a lot. I'd really like to see a solid competition of handsets and OS so that we actually get some more innovation and thought put into devices. Without a third major player I think things will continue as is, so that's where Mango comes in.

I'm excited for iOS5 simply because of gesture based browsing. and iCloud I use my iPad a lot for reading and content consumption so having gestures built into the OS will make it more enjoyable. iCloud will be huge to me because as Android I owner I forgot how annoying plugging a device in can be.

Overall I am looking forward to iOS 5. Mostly because its not just and upgrade to the iPhone OS its also the integration of iCloud into the MAC, the introduction of their new music matching service and the Messenger app in iOS which is rumored to also become part of iChat on the MAC. to this update seems to be more than Mango or IceCream Sandwich will be.

My primary is iOS so I am most interested in iOS 5. There are so many new features and integrations to look forward to. With that said, I like the competition and enjoy seeing how each new version advances the whole group.

Ice Cream Sandwich. I have high expectations for the next iteration of Android, and I hope it will deliver where Honeycomb promised, yet did not.

I have been waiting for ice cream sandwich. See I love browsers and I develop them for a living and I think that the new ICS bowser will be awesome. I don't like safari and IE9 on windows phone 7 is great too.

I have high expectations of Mango for WP7. There are 500 + changes made that I think will make WP7 a competitor in the mobile space. Multitasking and the ability to group apps and contacts are things I look forward to as well the refined messaging

I have been wanting to get an Android phone for two years now (with the Nexus S being my main target since it's release). I am on the cusp of getting one. Recent changes in my life has made it so that I can finally afford a data plan, but with the Nexus Prime imminent, I am choosing to wait and see before I finally make the leap. So, to sum it all up, I'm most excited about Ice Cream Sandwich only because it means I'll finally have a new phone (whether or not I'll choose the Nexus Prime or plan on going with the older Nexus S will depend on how things look when all of the details are released).
