My first phone was the Motorola Star-Tac, which I got in '97. I remember it being quite expensive here in the UK - but I loved that phoned. Still think it's a design classic now.

I believe my first phone was the Nokia 5210, according the the description it had "a feel similar to a He-Man action figure". (gdgt.com:84/nokia/5210/)

Funny, though not surprising, how many people's 1st phones were from Nokia. Compels me to ask this group if anyone still uses a Nokia phone?

Mine was a Motorola candybar. I've never been able to find the model number...
It had a 30 contact phonebook, b&w screen, and came with I think like 2 games. :)

My first cellphone was the LG 600. (gdgt.com/lg/lg-600/)

It had a monochromatic (blue) screen and its big feature was polyphonic ringtones. Nothing else about it was that special but it was pretty thin and light for the phones of that time. I liked it and it lasted me about 3 years.

My first cellphone was the original Motorola Brickphone. I still remember every neck craning around on the train when I took a call.

I believe the Nokia 5110 was my first mobile phone. (gdgt.com/nokia/5110/)

The most notable feature? It had the game Snake on it. I would kill hours of time playing that stupid game.

Mine was an LG 4NE1 (clever!) on Sprint. gdgt.com/lg/4ne1/

It was monochrome, it didn't support SMS (you had to go through a wireless web portal) and it got super hot after 10 minutes of talking.

But it had orange side panels, and a flip-down keyguard. I'm still nostalgic for the form factor.

My first phone was a nokia 3220. I was the first in my grade to get a camera phone. The lights on the side were a good added feature too. The best part is it still works!! wow.

Nokia 5110. I think that was most people's first in my generation. I think Snake was the biggest draw for me. :p

I was actually late to the game. What a shocker! But it was a Samsung flip phone - can't remember the model though it's probably still in a box in my closet (at least until I give it to Gazelle at the Boston event) and I loved it. Actually really miss the days when I could carry a small little flip phone and be done w/ it. For the record, I was w/ Sprint then and I've never changed. Been w/ Sprint a very long time.

I was 14 in 2000, and my parents got me a Sony Ericsson brick phone. I couldn't tell you what model it was, but it was a brick and extremely cumbersome. But I was one of the few kids my age at the time who had their own phone, so it was pretty awesome. Sad part is, I didn't actually go out, so there was never a real need for me to use it.

Complete history of my phones:
Sony Ericsson ??? c.2000
Nokia 6161 (who didn't have this phone?)
Motorola V60i (awesome battery life)
LG VX6000 (plus a replacement)
HTC TyTN (WinMo 5 -> 6.0)
iPhone 3G
iPhone 3GS / Droid (dual wield)

Feeling a little young with some of the brick-phones people are listing in here. My first was an Audiovox CDM 9100. I picked it up on Ebay for a few bucks in order to convince my parents to add me to their plan.

Though the phone that lasted me for years after the Audiovox had died was the Samsung SCH-a650. That phone could take a beating and never die. I dropped it countless times and even went swimming with it once. After keeping it off for a couple of days and letting it dry out it booted back up again and worked without an issue. The fact that dropping a phone at all now is almost certain to break it makes me a little nostalgic for the old flip phones that were nearly indestructible.

My first was the iPhone 3G in 2008. I know what you're thinking, and I'm not 12 years old. I just really wanted a smartphone, and the iphone 3G was the first one that was really competitive in pricing and features so I got it. I upgraded to the iphone 4 this year and I'm quite pleased.

I had the Nokia 3650. I felt like I could do a lot of stuff with this phone. I installed a bunch of programs, a NES emulator, an universal remote. It was a really great phone.

Mine was the Nokia 8110 (aka the Matrix phone. Aka the banana phone). I think I had it before the matrix came out though. It was my dad's before I had it. I lost it on the golf course though.

I'm pretty sure it was the Nokia 3285 (gdgt.com/nokia/aj216/). It had snake and an expendable antenna I'm surprised didn't brake for how much I abused it.

Sony CMD Z5 sometime in 1998. I thought the killer feature would be integrated pop3 eMail support. I sounded very cool, but in reality it never worked right and I hardly used it for anything but calling and texting. I still like the look. It had a nice, scratch resistant caoting that pealed off after a few years and the so called jog dial that was pretty good for navigation.

My first ever was a Motorola Flare ( gdgt.com/motorola/flare/ ). I temporarily moved to the UK and since BT were going to charge me a fortune to connect a landline, I decided I wouldn't bother and got a mobile instead. The Motorola didn't really have any "notable" features. In fact it sucked bad!

The first phone I owned that really had "notable" features was my Siemens SL45 ( gdgt.com/siemens/sl45/ ). It had a memory card slot, MP3 playback and basic wap internet (text only!) all in a thin light phone. Do you know how revolutionary that was in March 2001!!

My first phone was a wood grain (OEM) Nokia 2110. Two of my all time favorite phones of my past though were the Nokia 8210 (SUPER small, love it) and the Motorola V60i (metal, small, dependable).

Use a Nexus One today and can't believe how far these little devices have come in just over 10 years (when I had my 2110).
