I just moved into a house with 3 friends. Right now we have our Comcast modem hooked up to the provided router, but it doesn't reach all the way through the house. What's the best way to extend the connection? We're renting so we can't exactly punch holes in the walls for ethernet and we'd rather not have cords running through our halls. Are wireless range extenders actually any good? Or is there a way to extend it over the coax cables that are already run through the house (given that our modem is already hooked up to one of them)? Any other options?

Don't run the cables. Buy a top of the line router and get extenders if you have a big area (3 floors, outdoors, etc) that you want signal to reach without degradation. I just got an extender from a deal website and though it's hard to tell if it's actually improving anything, it was only $40 and setup took like 20 minutes.
The blinking lights can be annoying, but I think it's helping.

BTW you def need to buy a boss router. I have a belkin 600DB, and I can have 6+ devices running on it all the time. The range isn't that great, but the walls in my condo are super thick
