Question about
What's the best iPad data plan for using very little data?
I had a Verizon iPad 2, but I only added data to it when I knew I was going to be travelling, otherwise I was content to use wifi both at home and at work. However, last week my car was broken in to and my iPad was stolen. Because I didn't have a data plan, Find My iPhone was unable to track it, since the thief presumably wiped it before trying to connect to wifi.
I'm planning on getting a new one to replace it, but now I'm reconsidering my choice of carrier. My thought is that it's worth having data so that if it's ever stolen or lost I can track it even if it's not connected to wifi. In that case, AT&T's 250MB plan would be more than sufficient. But it looks like if I ever wanted to use more than 250MB, AT&T would charge me an additional $15/250MB. Is that true? What's the best value plan (on either carrier) for someone who wants to have data all the time but only occasionally use more than a couple hundred MB?

Verizon has much smaller plans you could keep just for the IFind feature also the RecoverymyPhone app which is provided my Verizons insurance for the devices is free and doesnt use the data plan to locate your device. I would also suggest to everyone with so many IDevices being stolen to use the passcode lock feature. Trust me I know it is a pain and even I have not been using it but I woke up this morning and read 11 reports of stolen IDevices just within the state of Texas where I live so when I am done typing this it is a feature getting turned on. Personally for me I would pick Verizon as they offer the better coverage but also they offer free apps that every 15minutes transmit the devices location to its server NOT Verisons and you can control it by logging into the apps website. Just like IFind, which I use a lot to track my son :)~, but this app doesnt require data, it will also take a picture of the person when entering a wrong passcode and email the pic to you, you can also use the app to send LOUD alarms, warning messages, turn by turn directions to track it, remote lock, remote wipe. There is a new feature that I REALLY like and that is you click the lost/stolen feature and the phones unigue ID is also reported as stolen to Apple and that means the phone is usless to anyone who tries to activate it even if they wipe it first. There are other apps to help prevent, recovery, etc., some are free some cost some money but well worth it. Hope this helps.
