I would say just mount the iPad. I was extremely sad when I got the e-mail from Dash saying the service was being discontinued. By odd coincidence, the touch screen stopped working on it that same day. I ended up settling for some TomTom with lifetime traffic updates because I wasn't able to find a suitable replacement but I didn't have as much time to research as I would have liked as I needed a new one right away. It doesn't even compare to how amazing the Dash was but at least it gets me from here to there most of the time.

iPad in car rules!!! bit.ly/brA7aR We had to cobble this one together using part of a ram-mount unit, bolted on to a standard CHP issue laptop mount. Hoping some more turnkey in-car mounts come out soon!

Hi Jason,

With apps like CoPilot Live HD, the iPad is definitely an option. But there's no need to drive around with your iPad in a cradle! Your DASH system was ahead of its time, though many aftermarket navigation systems now have live traffic data and location search...and most of them now allow some manner of PC connection for upgrades or destination entry. Some of the latest units from Garmin or TomTom include all of these features and cost less than $300.

And, as you already likely know, you'll save thousands (tinyurl.com/26gcgua) by opting for one of your own solutions versus an original-equipment option.
