Question about
phonezone

What percentage battery health should I expect after about 45 cycles?

When I bought this I was told to expect about 8-9 hours battery life, obviously assuming display is dimmed, keyboard is dimmed, bluetooth is off, yada, yada, yada. I never got this. I originally maybe got 6 hours and now I don't even get 4. Am I expecting too much, even though I was told I was going to get 8-9?

if you're running lion, the batter life is usually shortened because it switches to dedicated card quite often. I installed a program called gfxCardStatus that lets me switch them manually or let lion decide by itself. using this I can get 6 hours browsing the wed, checking email etc. (video, especially flash, makes it drop a lot (can't resist youtube)). When i'm not connected to the internet, just working on a word document I can get 8.

your battery health should be between 95-100% after 45 charges... I'm at 458 cycles and still at 90% health on my 15" mbp. you want to make sure that you're fully depleting the battery once every week or at least biweekly and then letting the battery completely charge.

If you want to monitor this stuff more closely, I use the iStatPro widget on my dashboard

Your battery health should be very high like nchen said. To see it you can go to the system profiler (from the "About This Mac" menu) and see there. iStatPro will show you too. There is also iStatMenus that shows your stats in the taskbar all the time.

To save battery life, it all depends on what you're using on your MBP.
-Try dimming the screen.
-Quitting (Command+Q) apps you aren't using but are still running.
-Turn off The Bluetooth if you don't have anything using it (you'd be surprised how much this can save)
-Turn off the Wifi if you're not using it. Even if you aren't connected to a network, the card is continually looking to join networks. (again saves a lot of power)

If you're running intensive Apps, it will drain your battery faster. The less you're running, the less battery you'll use. Simple as that.
