What is your opinion of Spotify's changes to their TOS?

Today Spotify updated their TOS, most important to me is the free subscription which has been changed.

The Spotify Service can be accessed (i) as an ad-supported free-to-the-user service having no monthly cap on listening hours or a cap on number of plays of a unique track during the first 6 months following creation of your Spotify account but thereafter a cap of 10 listening hours per month and a cap of 5 plays per unique track (the “Free Service”),

I will probably listen for my 6 months at which point I'll go back to stream music from radio station's websites. I like the service as a whole, but I don't see enough value in it to pay. Streaming radio and youtube get ready for me in 6 months!

Note: These changes were announced back in April - www.spotify.com/se/blog/archives/2011/04/14/upcomi...

I heard about this limitation when it just launched in the US, but I thought it wasn't going to apply. I don't really mind the 10 hours a month, but the 5 plays per song is a problem. Since Spotify's music discovery is horrendous, I tend to listen to the same songs over and over, so I'll eventually run out of stuff to play. I'm going to have a hard time not being able to play my favorite Friday mix: open.spotify.com/user/casschin/playlist/5ts6fpd6ck...

To fill the void, I'll probably end up going back to Google Music, Youtube, and maybe Grooveshark.

Well, considering I was just using it to listen to tracks I already own, it's not worth it to pay a fee, so I guess I'll just be transferring my collection over to all of my computers once my six months is up.

10 hours is absolutely nothing. You can use that up within one work day. Same with the 5 plays, though I suppose if you're listening to a particular song a lot, you really should just buy it.

I had no clue we Spotify free accounts were actually on a 6 month trial. I agree with Kris, 10 hours is nothing. They would be smart to turn their 'radio' section into a Pandora competitor where you have unlimited listening but you gave to listen to whatever is in the radio queue.

I'm currently paying for the premium account. But I had gotten tired of downloading MP3s and then have to find places to store them. With Spotify, I was able to find songs I listen to, as well as old and new songs without having to wait to download and then store it some where.

Plus the fact that with the premium account I can use the Android app, which has an offline mode, I pretty much use it all the time on the go and at home, without worrying about the constraints of how much storage space I have available.

I thought that these changes had already been implemented in the TOS update of July 1? Today's TOS change is covers different stuff altogether (I just tried to diff them here: nathanwong.co.uk/blog/2011/10/14/spotify-tos-updat...)

I've tired paid music services before, but I ended up cancelling them because I just don't use them that much. My main source of entertainment is podcasts, and I can subscribe to those for free.
